Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I'd like to know why you'd bother with anything more than bargain bin tyres if you're just going to skid through them.

My 28c Randonneur is still holding up now, after over a month's worth of brakeless skdding.
That cost me almost $30.

Your "bargain bin" tires I have used, specifically the CST Comp, Continental Ultra Race, Vittoria Zaffiro, or my stock IRO Duros, have each lasted LESS than two weeks MAX (only the CST has set that record).
These will each cost me between $15 to $20.

I guess you can argue that I should put on a brake, or skid less, or whatever, but based on my experiences, the Randonneur has performed better for skidding than ANY of those "bargain bin" tires.
So for my type of riding, I think I'll stick with the Randos.
