Whats up *****,
I asked for a size 7, and they sent me a 12(!), but everyone here is saying that these run big, so get in touch with me and perhaps we can work something out? Don't have an 8 unfortunately :(

The shoes felt pretty good with the peddles as long as I was riding level ground. Too much pressure point when climbing though. The shoes are fantastic for lifting weights. If the Kursk hold for the next several months, I may have to ask for a set of Midway Chrome shoes for Christmas as my primary weight lifting shoes and cycling shoes for going to the gym. The Kursk would then become my utility riding shoes.

On Saturday, I did an 8 mile ride one way on clipless with outer cage
http://www.amazon.com/Shimano-Cliple.../dp/B0000C83Y4
This time the Kursk were comfortable even during climbing. I keep the shoes on while teaching an 8 hour class (mostly standing the entire time) as well as the organization group breakfast, dinner and keynote speaker. About 13 hours total.

Sunday, 16 mile round trip on clipless with outer cage and 7 hours of teaching class.

The Kursk remained comfortable even during the long 2 days of class and dinner plus.

I really like these shoes and hope they hold up for a very long time.

Why are you wearing these shoes with clipless pedals? Did you screw a cleat on them or something?

No cleats added to the Chromes.

All my bikes have clipless pedals on them. Most of my riding is clipless, but for short rides to the gym, teach a class or to officiate a sports event, clipless style bike shoes do not work well for off the bike activities. So the choice is to find a shoe that works OK to well for both OR change out peddles between rides. The other option is to get a clipless on one side and platform on the other side peddle.

The Chrome shoes are a surprisingly good compromise.

Are you doing that fixed? I can't imagine how you would feel secure with that, but if it works for you, great.

On another note, I STILL haven't gotten mine yet. Double sigh.

I mostly ride geared, as most rides necessarily include significant steep climbing to and from home (on a plateau).

I keep a SS/FG bike at work for downtown riding in Honolulu. But mostly ride SS on it.

i found mine to be extremely stiff, after 8 minles of riding and 2 of walking my feet were KILLING me

I hadnt received mine either so i emailed chrome and they looked me up and gave me my fedex tracking number. It turned out someone wrote the wrong address and they couldnt deliver, so my shoes got sent back to them. So... email them and ask them if theyre in transit or if they were undeliverable.

LoRoK 05-11-10 05:14 PM

Well, I did email Chrome and they told me that I wasn't in the database at all, which means they never got the shoes I sent in. I didn't have any tracking from the post office to prove that I had sent them in. In fact, the closest I had to proof was my earlier post in this forum about how I sent my shoes in. I pointed them to that, and received this response:

"Since we didn't receive your actual shipment, you technically don't qualify for the free shoes. However, it sounds as though you went through the effort of sending us your kicks and USPS just effed **** up. SO, as a thanks for the support, i'm willing to completely bend the rules and kick you a coupon voucher that will allow you to redeem the free kicks online. However, you will need to pay for the shipping on the free shoes because of the way the code is set up. Is that cool? If so, shoot me your address and i'll get the coupon voucher mailed out!"

How nice is that? These guys have been nothing but cool with me when I've ordered stuff from them, and now the get even cooler still. These guys are one of those companies that I want to support. I'm glad they're around.

does anyone have a quick way of breaking these things in? Mine = blister city!

Pooptet 05-11-10 09:13 PM

Same. I guess just keep wearing them

badonis 05-12-10 02:00 PM

The soles on these are so grippy that I tried to pull out of my clips at a stoplight and I fell over because I couldn't get my feet out. -_-

Cover your foot in paper mache, make sure every strip is smooth against your foot. It is important to get the shape of the bottom of your foot as accurately as you can. Let the first few layers dry before adding more. Once everything is nice and dry remove the molds, slowly. You may have to cut them off, just make sure you get it in 2 pieces, so you can mend it for the next step.

Once your foot molds are in one piece, poor in cement, clay, rubber, etc.; whatever material works best for you. Let the material dry, solidify or cool down (from the kiln) and then remove the molds. You will have concrete/plastic/clay/ version of your own foot. Put these in the shoe, lace them up, and toss them in the dryer for a few hours. Repeat as necessary.

Wear them more.

I actually really dig the shoes. They are very stiff and a little narrow for my monster feet, but after wearing them in they feel pretty good walking around. They perform great on the bike. I took the insole out because I normally wear homemade flat sandals without any support, and they are more comfortable to me that way. They seem to be holding up fine but I will put them to the test in June when I will be doing a week of construction work in Mexico. Overall I am stoked on 'em.

wow that is super cool of them.

yah actually Chrome were featured in the local TV news (im in the bay area near San Francisco) about how the company was created by riders and how all their bags are made in USA, actually in Chico, Ca. I dont know if it was the owner or not but the guy seemed really chill and all about making quality/local products.

however i think their shoes are made overseas. but the bags are made about 3 hours away from SF.
i dont need a new bag but if i do im willing to shell out the extra money to support a good company that makes good bags and is keeping it local (well, bag wise anyway lol)

as for the shoes, my review is this:

i sort of see these shoes as good around town biking shoes where you are biking from different places and not walking around so much when you get to your destination.
i guess the stiff sole is good for better power transfer on the pedals or whatever. if i had to be walking around all day i wouldn't recommend them, but then again they arn't really designed for that.

wearing them to work is no big deal because im at a computer allot.
oh and i wear them with holdfast straps and i think they work well with them.

overall i dig them for work commute and riding to the store/cafe/bar/etc. will try a longer ride sometime soon.
