$600 for a Lamester? Yeah Right!

Yeah, so I was somewhat considering getting a Langster, but they were impossible to find. Now that they are starting to be available again, the price is jacked up more than 25%! No way would I pay $600 for an aluminum bike with a converted road crank and crap bottom bracket, and heavy wheels! Why is it that you can buy a new aluminum road bike with complete Shimano Sora gruppo for $200 less than this bike? $400-450 yes, $600 not a chance in hell.

If you're going to spend $600 on a track bike, get a KHS flite 100. It has Sugino 75 cranks, which are great. It's a durable steel frameset with true track geometry, and it has about the same quality wheels as the Lamester.

Sorry, I just had to blow off some steam, because I can't find a single track bike here in Munich.

maybe this guy can help you out. he's in berlin, if you can get there. lots of messers who ride fixed there, too.

Bikes: 2 fixies, 1 road, 29er in the works.

I've seen them, they look decent with the flat black and all. But the Bianchi Pista looks better. Saw a Pista Concept at Adams ave bike shop (near Northpark, really more Kensingtonish), that thing looks pretty nice.

I rode a KHS at (former bike USA) just up the street from there. Kick @&& bikes. But, I dunno, I dig the road conversion.

Am I the only one that hates that down-sloping top tube on the Langster? Maybe that's being picky.

Yeah, Adams avenue is cool, they carry a lot of track stuff. I didn't know performace carried any khs bikes. They do have the fuji track and track pro, and the cannondale track. You should really check out Thomas bike shop. they carry tons of track stuff, and they are cool guys.

I emailed the guy from oldskooltrack, and he's back in new york, but gave me some good pointers.

Right now I'm in the process of putting together a frankenfixie, but I really don't like the idea of putting brand new campy pista cranks on a piece of crap. Hopefully I can find something soon.

William, what kind of pursuit bike are you getting? I'm seriously considering having a custom pursuit frame made from spicer cycles.

I picked up a langster (quickly rebranded to special ed gangster) a while back and I've been really pleased with it. I think a fair price is around $400 and it certianly isn't worth a penny over $450. Every part on it is cheap but usable except for maybe the seat which is worthless. For me it's turning out to be a great first time fixie.

i agree. For $400, it's a bargain, and you can upgrade the parts, and you got a great bike. My girlfriend got hers for $350. No way in hell would I pay $600. I think Specialized just thought they would capitalize on the popularity of this bike, not taking into account that the reason it is so popular is was the cheap price.

Hee hee hee.

I love my sloping top tube Langster. Yes I paid only $450 for it. I love it.

Frankly, Mr. Shankly...

Less pursuit and more of an overtake and destroy bike.

It's an Australian made frame.

Problem with Australian frames is finding drivetrain parts, you see, they are on the other side.

But I'm excited... I saw a picture of the frame (unpainted), looks mean

Is it new, and can I buy one too? I love the aggressive "overtake and destroy" geometry. I had a 60cm khs bike with that style, but it was too small. With that geometry, a 60cm feels like a 55cm.

Yes, the original guy didn't get the humour.

But yes, it is actually made now. On it's way to get painted.

I finally got my fixie built up, I used a piece of crap frame and put my $250 campy cranks on it, but I have a problem. My 18 tooth cog is FROZEN onto the promax hub. I took it to the LBS, and they bent 2 chainwhips, and used a hammer and socket, but the thing wouldn't budge! Any suggestions?

I just bought a bundle of 5 different cogs. I would prefer to change the rear, since a new campy chainring is somewhere around $80. I think I'm gonna soak in WD40 for the next couple days an see what happens.

sometimes steel and aluminum can get cold-welded to each other. i am not sure if wd40 would work, but certainly worth a try.

There's something else you could try rather than WD40 to loosen it up - forgot the name but do a search on loosening cog, or something similar like that on the forums. It's been talked about before.

Maybe liquid wrench, or some marvel mystery oil, it comes in a spray can now.
