I recently bought a Leader 722ts 53cm. After putting on my 700c velocity Deep V's I realized that there is absolutely no clearance from the top tube to my crotch area, and this is whithout the tires on. Is the frame too big for me, because it certainly feels that way. I have an inseam of about 29-30", so would a size 51cm be more appropriate? here are the measurements of the 722ts pulled from leaders site.

syandover height doesnt reallly matter. tt is more important but if its too high for you it could be too big. You should get fitted at your lbs.

I did do a fitting at my LBS and they said that the 53cm would be appropriate for my height of 5'7". I inquired about a 51cm because I felt that it would be a more comfortable frame in terms of fit, but the LBS guy told me that a 51cm would be for people 5'4" ish. I'm aware that your overall height really is not that important but the inseam I guess is a bit too close still.

Did you get fitted on that frame or did they just say "order a 53?" I meant bring your frame there and get them to set it up with you.

there's no tangible difference between 53cm and 51cm, because 700c wheeled bikes basically don't get any smaller in sizes below 21"

don't worry about the stand over.
When are you going to be straddling the top tube and walking on your feet when you're riding your bike anyways?

the only time where you might want a 51cm is when there is too much seat tube height and the seat post hits the frame before you can actually get the saddle in a position where it's comfortable.

+1 to all of this. when you say fitted by the LBS, do you mean full work up or did they just measure your inseam and tell you a bike that fits?

Honestly, I think you should stick with the 53cm frame. Even without too much clearance in the standover height, it probably fits you otherwise. I ride a 53 and I am also 5'7". If it's any incentive, it will be easier to sell a 53 than a 51 in the near future (maybe, this could be told BS, but it seems that 53's are always out of stock before 51's).

But.. If you want to know for sure the 'correct fit' I would take the frame and your wheels (hopefully you've got tires and tubes somewhere ) to a LBS and have them fit you.

im 5'6 as well and everybody told me to get a 53cm even though i wanted a 51cm. I ended up getting a 53cm. i also have a 30" inseam and i barely clear the standover but the top tube suits my upper body better and it was a more comfortable ride

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that standover should NEVER be the determining factor in choosing a frame size. The important thing is that the complete bicycle, including frame, bar, stem, saddle position, crank arm length as an assemblage fit YOU properly when RIDING the bicycle. As long as the correct relative position of the three human contact points (hands, feet, derriere) can be achieved with available components, then that particular frame will work for YOU.

I have a 51cm 722TS.
Im 5'5 29/30" inseam.
The 51cm is perfect for me tho it looks more like a 49cm.
I feel like I could fit on a 53 and not have such a tiny lookin bike

I think yur standover is not a problem at all.
More important is yur cockpit fit (Stem length bar reach n drop and saddle height)
Tho a slammed seat kinda looks goofy.

Thanks a lot guys. The reason I asked is because I will be using RB021 drop bullhorns which require a bit more reach than typical bullhorns and upon a vague assessment of mounting the seat post to a tireless frame with wheels, I felt that I couldn't adjust the seat all that high. Since I bought the frame from Leaders online retail store which I believe is located 2 hours away from where I live, would you think that I could have the bike fitted and if its not a good size, send the frame back for exchange?
