yeah i am thinking they put a sticker on it.

the upsidedown/backwards is obviously just his webcam flipping the image... but they don't look like the engraved/etched logos on real sg75's either. looks like someone make a sticker, put it on a road double like a vp or something, and sold it for profit. that to me is way more likely of a scenario than these being some mythical sg75's specially run in 130.

here's a vp: https://farm5.static.flickr.com/4008/...acbd72b83c.jpg
you could easily polish off the vp logo and put a sticker saying 75 on. i had a set of 130bcd VP's on my nishiki. in a double, they would have looked just like yours.

you got hosed, tommy

I am leaning towards thinking fake 75s as well. Counterfeit cranksets? Has anyone here seen that before?

I have a set for sale here in the forum, and this is a picture of the inside of my crankarm. I am not sure if they are all like this, but I would think if they were real Sugino 75s that they would have an NJS stamp on them somewhere - like the ones in my picture do.

Oh, right ^^

That would have been a obvious sign.

OP, does your pair have the NJS stamp?

NJS only applies to track components, so if Sugino actually made a road version of the model 75 it would not have the NJS stamp.

I'd say it's 99.9% certainty that it's fraud, and the OP got taken to the proverbial cleaners.

So quick to jump to conclusions, so slow to use search engines...
You know that there was a 75 road group made in the 80's?
Note that the decal on the spider arm matches the photo in the OP.

Well, I did use google and did not find this, but appreciate your pointing it out. I suppose if I'd moved this thread to C&V, this might have been found out quicker. In any event, it's good news for the OP.

Black Sugino 75s don't have the NJS stamp, but it seems like all silver ones do.

But still, road doubles. COOL!

Honestly OP, if this is your first fixed gear, I would sell those for as much as you can get for them, then buy a more budget-oriented crankset.

the 130bcd road cranks that i use for both fixed and geared applications say suntour cyclone on the front and sugino on the back. im very happy with them, but if you were looking for or paid 75 money, thats disappointing.

Okay, so now that we've established that Sugino actually did manufacture a 130BCD road version of the Sugino 75 crank, we can move on to the more pressing issue (which I hope will give rise to a lively debate)

Are these JIS or ISO taper? After all, it took people years to figure that out about the 75 track cranks...

If I'm correct; NJS's strict guidelines does not approve of some components being a different color... for example the anodized b123's....

Nice finds anyway on the 75 road cranks.

There isn't an NJS stamp anywhere, which worried me initially before I made this post, but I'm happy none the less that they're not fakes. I will try to sell these for as much as I can and get a more appropriate crankset, thanks a bunch guys for all your help!

There is nothing wrong with those, unless you care about being tark. You could just keep it and use it, providing you can get a proper chainline. If you just sold that chainring you could probably get a decent 130bcd chainring+nice bartape or something extra!

Yes, there's nothing wrong with them, but selling them doesnt mean he cares about being tarck. He just wants to sell them and buy some other cranks that would possibly be easier to match chainline with. He may get a nice amount for them and he can go upgrade some other parts as well.

Nobody's gonna be the wiser, period.

Heck even we were all stumped at first; before we learned that looks often deceive.

Well, unless you're going to get an external BB crank, "upgrading" to another crank is a waste of time. It's not like you can't put the same length BB you use for other Sugino double cranks on a SS on to get the right chainline.

I didnt say he was going to get an upgrade on the crank. However, if he can get a decent amount of money for these, enough to cover the cost of a similar crank plus a little extra, why not? He already said he's going to try and sell them so that's his choice.
