Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I've got two bikes at the moment. My main single speed commuter (my method of transportation around campus and town) and a mid-70's Schwinn Varsity 10 speed that I ride around when I feel like over exerting myself (40 pounds does not a fast bike make) or for fun occasionally.

I had a cheap Diamondback mountain bike from Dick's that I'd had for years, but it got stolen over the summer. Can't really say I miss it too much

Also have a collection of old dead bikes behind my house, I think there's three mountain bikes, a hybrid, and a weird beach cruiser thing. They're useful to have around for parts occasionally, not good for much else...might fix up the cruiser since all it needs is a new back wheel and chain.

I had a low quality no-name frame I was going to make into a fixed, but it got stolen as well. I have bad luck sometimes...Still want to build a fixed from the frame up though, if I come across another frame (got the stolen one for free).

I've got two. My '09 Bianchi Pista fixed and an '07 Schwinn Fastback sport that I'm going to sell and build a more beater of a fixed. The Bianchi is too nice to lock up outside in the dark.

Bikes: Geekhouse Deerfield, GT Edge Ti, Spooky Skeletor, TET Track, Ritchey P-650b, Bridgestone MB-3

I own one, but would love to have a nice one to sink $3k into and then be too afraid of messing it up to ride it.

I have four.

But I don't own a steel bike. I won't be truly happy until I have one.

I'm down to 3 right now (from 5 last summer)

I currently have every intention of building up a new fixed gear over the winter and come spring I will be reinvesting in road riding. The mountain bike needs a little TLC but should be up and running in a few weeks.

How many of you have a favorite? When you end up with more than one bike there almost has to be one you prefer over the rest right?

2, both are in my signature.

My dream stable would include current bike plus:
New Road bike with full dura-ace
A decent MTB to play around with
A fixed townie
A dedicated track bike (would give me an excuse to find a track and go to it)
Plus a large assortment of classic track/road bikes (I'd like to have something with Campy record because I think it's pretty)

Did a LOT of selling, donating, giving away, etc. to get down to a more manageable collection of bikes (still with lots of parts, wheels, etc. in storage). With my girlfriend riding more now (yay), she's got three bikes, and I live in a smaller place than I did before I moved recently, so several bikes/frames had to go. Here's what I've got:

track racing bike
mtb racing bike, geared 1x6
cx racing bike, single speed
road racing/training bike, geared 2x10
touring bike, geared 3x9
fixed road/rain bike
commuter/bar bike, single speed

My touring bike is a Karate Monkey, running gears, racks, fenders, etc. It used to be my single speed mtb, so I'll be building up a new ss 29er withing the next year or so, when I get bored only riding/racing on my geared mtb. Probably another Karate Monkey, or maybe a Salsa El Mariachi or Vassago Jabberwocky. Also, I work weekends at a shop that is a Trek dealer, and the Trek Earl looks like it could be a fun, super cheap (yay EP) ss beater, so I might end up getting one and leaving it at the shop for beer runs, pub crawls, etc. Otherwise, I'm pretty satisfied with my bikes.

Trek 1.2 - Roadie.
Globe Roll - Bought it fixed.
Kilo TT - Built it up fixed.
Visp 790 - Building it up right now to a TT-esque fixed.
Dawes P.O.S. - My **** weather/snow bike (which is replacing a Specialized Hard Rock Comp, which used to be my bad weather bike).

I can't help but want more though... N+1

I have four. Three of which are Steel, And three of which are Road bikes. I will probably give the Mountain (Nishiki) away, and sell my Peugeot.
