FG Conversion - Wheel Dish Question
I'm converting my road bike to FG and plan on using an ENO eccentric hub.
https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...on-in-progress
The ENO hub is symmetrical - flip flop. My existing rim (that i want to reuse) is an asymmetrical Velocity Aerohead that's offset.

Right now I have double-butted spokes on non-drive side and straight spokes on the drive side, great wheelset from Odds & Endos. I'm only going to ride fixed (no SS), so should I flip the rim so that the drive side spokes are shorter / flatter? Do you think if i re-use this rim will the non-drive spokes will have too much dish / make the wheel too flexy?

You are most likely going to need new spokes, because the flange spacing and diameter of the ENO hub is not the same as your freehub. Also, that rim is only meant to be used on a dished wheel. Iit makes absolutely no sense to use an offset rim for a FG wheel or to use different spokes on the DS and NSD. The road wheel you have now is a nice wheel, built by an excellent wheelbuilder. Don't take it apart just to build a substandard misfit FG wheel. Just build a new wheel with different components. You'll end up with a much better wheel.

Was trying to reuse as much as I can and save a little $. Has anyone else done this, converting a dished road wheel with an ENO hub?

If you really want to save money, sell your wheelset and buy or build one that is more appropriate for your conversion. For as much as this conversion is utlimately going to cost you, you could probably spend $50 more on a complete bike from BD and still have your nice road bike.

You are attempting to do more than convert a dished wheel....you are attemting to build an undished wheel with an offcenter rim, which makes no sense. With that rim, you are going to end up with a needlessly dished FG wheel. As I noted earlier, you are probably going to need new spokes anyway. Spend an extra $40 and get a new rim.

considering that the hub you bought is usually at least $100 by itself you will end up with an expensive crappy wheel. If you really want, sell the old wheel and buy a new rim and new spokes. Even better, sell the road bike and the eno hub and buy a complete bike. You would end up with a new bike and a few bucks in your pocket too.

As everyone has said, just get a new rim. It doesn't make sense trying to use an off-center rim on a centered hub. Sell your current wheel if you want, but IMO once you buy the ENO hub you're really not in the "saving money" category anymore.

Thanks all, you're right - will build a new wheel w standard symmetrical aerohead to match the front. I'll search the forums, but does anyone know a good wheelbuilder in the DC area?
