Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Derailleurless in December

I'm new to the fixed gear scene having just built up my first fixed gear bike several weeks ago - needless to say I am enjoying every bit of it. 1979 Fuji Gran Tourer - see pic below...I think I'll go the rest of December without derailleur. I know you guys do this all the time.

Very nice! I'd reccomend a front brake, or else stay out of traffic.

After needing to clean the crud off the bike and rear derailleur when I was caught in the rain, I converted my bike to a SS. A more liberating way to ride with less maintenance.

DCV, nope they are new wheels I bought as a pair on CL. They came off a Mercier TT I believe (700) and I threw some 32mm width tires on there.
