So in other words the difference is minuscule. I'm actually about to take some beginner track classes (CalvjanoTrackie?! Calvington?!) and since I'm in the market for a new bike I can commute with and take to the velodrome, I think either the 725 or 721 is a good choice.

Scrodzilla 09-14-11 12:06 PM

The 721 is awesome if you want to save a little money. Angie's kicks ass.

calv 09-14-11 12:38 PM

I know!! haha Question is do I want slick welds? I kind of like the idea of the 721 though so I'm leaning closer to that.

ANyway, I looked at the geometry charts, and I usually fit a 53 better, around a 538 top tube length and a stem length anywhere between 90 to 110mm. I was wondering if I'd be okay with getting a 53 even with leaders long top tube? Worse case scenario is that I'd need a stem size 10 or 20mm smaller, which isn't that bad.

ALso, I forgot to add how stiff the Leaders were in general?

Scrodzilla 09-14-11 12:43 PM

You may be better off with a 51. Because of the head tube angle and rake of the fork, you'd be better off using a shorter stem to prevent you from being too far out over the front wheel so keep that in mind when figuring out sizing.

My 725 is really stiff without being overly harsh and I know TT has said good things about how stiff his 721 is on the track.

calv 09-14-11 01:20 PM

Well, I think that sums it up, I'll be getting a 721. Though if you say it might be better to have a shorter stem, maybe I'll choose the 53. I was going to switch to a 100/110mm stem on my Kilo because the 90mm was so cramped when I was in the drops. If I get the 53 I may be able to just keep a 90mm on there.

Scrodzilla 09-14-11 01:39 PM

Doooooooo it.

I've got a 70mm on my 55. Just make sure you check all the numbers really well before ordering. A lot of people order the wrong size (ahem hamfoh).

Here's the 721/725/735 math:

Ha what an idiot! I heard he was looking at the 722 geo when he ordered too. Sigh, some people. Buy first, ask questions later, amirite? :D

I can ride with risers or track drops with a 70mm stem, fwiw, but bullhorns don't feel comfortable and I feel like the small stem makes the combo with the long TT feel weird to me. I'm sure I could eventually get used to it, if I can't sell it for the right price, but I do miss bullhorns.

calv, I'm normally a 58 and a 58 is definitely too long for me. I would measure yourself 500x before ordering a 725. I really want to run a 90mm stem or so, so I definitely wish I had sized down

Hothead286 09-14-11 02:48 PM

I really like my 721. I have a 70mm on my 61.

calv 09-14-11 04:48 PM

Hmm, at worst, I'd have to put a 70mm to put me back around the top tube length +stem of my Kilo. I'm not to worried about getting a 53.

Scrodzilla 09-14-11 04:52 PM

That's good then. I really like the way my 725 handles with a 70mm stem.

calv 09-14-11 04:53 PM

Sweet, with that Thomson Elite deal (90mm) and a pair of Nitto track drops, everything should be sweeeet.

btw: I'm surprised people aren't going total ape**** over <$40 brand new Thomson stems.

Scrodzilla 09-14-11 04:56 PM

I think it's because they're silver. It's funny because back when I had my Kilo, I would have been stoked about that deal.

yummygooey 09-14-11 04:57 PM

I thought it was 'cause they are 25.4mm.

Scrodzilla 09-14-11 05:00 PM

Oh yeah. Maybe a side order of that too.

hamfoh 09-14-11 05:12 PM

basically that combo is why I held off. silver + 25.4 - any other combination and those wouldn't have lasted a day I bet.

calv 09-14-11 05:59 PM

Meh, probably a good idea to pass on it.

CJWIZVRDGVNG 09-16-11 05:41 PM

hopefully ordering a 722TS within the next two weeks..trying to figure out whether or not to get a 55cm or a 53cm. I'm around 5'10" with somewhere close to a 30-31" inseam. I currently have a 55cm Vitus 979 roadie that is goddamn comfortable and i was comparing the geometry to the 722 hoping i could get somewhere close. figured the 55cm might be my best bet. 979 has some tight geometry and i'm pretty sure the track 979 has identical geo.

Anyone have some insight?

Scrodzilla 09-16-11 05:47 PM

Go by top tube length. I'm 5'10" with only a couple more inches of inseam than you and ride a 58. I'm thinking a 55 will most likely fit you nicely.

I concur. the Vitus' TT is 540mm and 722 is 545mm. I think with a slightly shorter stem than whats on the vitus or even the same size i won't notice that 5mm haha.

getting more and more used to the 70mm stem (kinda forced to unless I want to move my crankset over to the soma in the meantime -- I don't) and may end up keeping the longer 725 as I just love the way it feels on a nice open road. I think today I'm going to put on the bullhorns and hope I don't feel like I'm doing yoga while doing. plsss feel good. plsss bro

ever get the feeling someone’s looking over your shoulder? A certain company out there is not living up to their name.. I’m flattered nonetheless

yes, his concept is so unique.

hamfoh 09-27-11 06:40 PM

that's what I was thinking

hamish5178 09-27-11 10:46 PM

Retrogression needs to make an aluminum lo-pro frame and then sue Low who can sue Leader who can sue Cinelli who can sue Cannondale who will then go bankrupt.

edit: Affinity will move production underground and sell only on the black market.

redpear 09-28-11 01:31 AM

Not saying that Andrew Low isn't being a complete ******bag, but there's got to be more of a reason for him to think the Kagero is a ripoff, right?

Otherwise, why wouldn't he just go after Cinelli or claim that the Kagero was based on the MASH, aside from the LOW/MASH friendship?

I was very confused about that post.
