Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

This is the problem, and I'm afraid there is no solution other than riding a cheap beater bike on campus. I've had two bikes stolen in my lifetime, and both of them were stolen when I was in school. Bicycle theft was so rampant and blatant that, in one case, an entire bike rack with a dozen or so locked bicycles was simply loaded into a large truck with a liftgate and driven away.

Reminds me of the line the guys at the local bike shop said. "Minneapolis; where bikes go to get stolen."

Now that's a heist

There was this guy running classes on a cervelo S2 the other day on campus. How would I know? He was not wearing a single piece of lycra and had a backpack.

That is where they need to anchor the rack into the concrete.
