I'd throw that in the same category as tall-bikes. It's a novelty, and nothing more. Not really jackass, IMO.
|
I agree.
|
Strictly speaking the tallbike is so much novelty as a relic that used to serve a purpose (lighting gas street lighst) in its time.
What's the purpose of the bike above? I have hard time trying to figure out what led the builder to that geo? |

What's the "purpose" of a swing bike? http://i611.photobucket.com/albums/t...ingBike-09.jpg |
"Fun"? Yeah, I must've heard that somewhere sometime. Yeah, it was in the sentence "internet discussion boards can be loads of fun".
Seriously though, I'm just having difficulties figuring out exactly what sort of fun that bike was built for. In case of the swing bike it's easy to see what the idea behind the construction is, the other bike not so much. Super high BB, high bars, low saddle... My purpose is not to say that the bike in question is stupid (at least not more stupid than it's builder intended), I'm just curious about the thought/design process that led to it. |
The fun was probably more in designing, finding parts, and building up a goofy bike than riding it.
|
Freak bikes are a subculture all their own. Do you really need a definition and list of reasons why? Doesn't sound like much fun to me.
There's a group of dudes from here who build really crazy bikes just to make them and ride around town dressed as clowns, monsters and other weird ****. They're always having a blast. |
Y U so negative? That's not much fun either.
Was just curious if there actually is some (freakishly fun) application where that bike makes sense, that's all. Back to posting pics of stayers and the like, I guess. |
Is Rootzilla just Scrod having arguments with himself?
|
I don't think I am.
(Been using this nick since 2002 IIRC. Similarity to Scrod's moniker is entirely coincidental.) |

FWIW - I've been Scrodzilla since the mid-80s. |

2. That's the geo he wound up with when he turned that BMX frame upside down. Simple as that. |

I guess I'd just shoot for a more practical seat position If I had the skills&tools to do something like that. Would probably make riding it even more fun. |
Nothing about the bike is practical...why are you even picking apart that bike?
|
There's an extremely slim sliver of a chance that I'm wrong but last time I checked, practicality and fun don't usually walk hand-in-hand.

The bike is a novelty, but its still jackass. They went through the effort of turning a bmx frame upside down and welding more tubes onto the frame only to end up with a nearly unridable bike due to the crappy crank placement in relation to the saddle. It's like a very poorly done tall bike.
|
that swing bike, on the other hand, looks freaking awesome. I would ride that
|
Swing bikes are amazingly fun.
