So I am walking in to work with my bike when one of my co-workers says....
him-"oh are you one of those guys who rides all over the f****ing road"
me-"well, I do pay my taxes, so I have a right to them"
him-"so howabout unless you want to be roadkill you stay on the sidewalks"
me-"well its illegal for one thing and-"
him-"cause I'll f****ing run you down wilson, just like that dude from last week"
All this was said with a dead serious attitude.
The dude he is referring to is a 68 year old man who was killed by some woman who couldn't keep out of one of our 10 bike lanes in hawaii ,going 92 mph in her truck with her 2 year old onboard. I don't really care about the death threat since he isn't ballsy enough to do such a thing, but that is jacked up to say someone deserved to die since he rides a bike.
And the worst part is, the guy is a E-4 in the military, one of my superiors who is supposed to be the responsible leader.

already did, and my psychic abilities are telling me nothing will happen. After all, he does out rank me and that means everything here in the military
Not like that guy didn't already hate me and try to make my job even worse.

Welcome to the world.
Things to know:
- Riding bikes on the sidewalk may be illegal in your city or state (apparently it is for you)
- Taxes or no, as a citizen you have a right to the public way. This has been upheld by the Supreme Court. It's probably also specifically allowed in local vehicle code.
- Without bike lanes, you have a right to operate in the other vehicular lanes. Even with bike lanes you probably still retain this right (though that is not universally true)
- A bicycle is substantially smaller than a motor vehicle. A motorist who claims that they can't help but run into small targets in broad daylight clearly has no business operating a motor vehicle. God forbid they come upon something larger than a cyclist, surely they will be helpless to avoid collision owing to their poor vehicular control
- As mentioned, a death threat is a serious thing

Oh, and my last name is Wilson too, It could be the Private Wilson beat down!!! It'll be great. And then we can run him over with our bikes!
And once again for the record, I've never seen a responsible E-4.

Bikes: A few more than my fair share.
When did people get so aggressive? It seems like there are a lot of folks out there that get super angry out of the blue. The worst part is that my first instinct lately is to get aggressive in return.

Just blow it off, if you already reported it say,"I was just covering my butt in case he was stupid enough to do something, im not worried now." Downplay the whole thing.
Reporting stuff like this won't do anything for you, at best he says he was kidding, at worst they slap him on the wrist and people retaliate against you forever.
I made a few threats in the military, some of them i meant, none of them were in public. I had one guy dangle me off a fire escape over a three story drop with a bunch of big rocks below me when i was in army boot in 87, now THAT was a threat. It caused me to get an instant "attitude adjustment," and corrected some stupid stuff i had been doing.
An E-4, prolly 20 years old or less, just a punk kid, don't sweat it unless you are in a combat zone, then maybe sweat it.
I threated one guy twice in my army unit, the second one took. Combat soldiers aren't boy scouts and the rules aren't always the way to deal with people.
