Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

On top of that, if your cable snaps then you have no way of stopping your bike unless you stomp your foot on the rear wheel, at least a fixed gear lets you back pedal to slow. Rear brake only on SS is nearly as bad as brakeless fixed gear.

So, get a front brake
Thank you for sharing your knowledge I now feel smarter. Next time i will try searching first.

I'd actually say it's more dangerous. EpicSchwinn noted his small gear ratio. However since he has a freewheel that means that he can still go insanely fast down a steep hill. On a brakeless fixed gear you are limited by how fast you can spin. As has been said before, I go down hills pretty slowly unless I know the road is safe and feel like zooming down it.

This is my new baby. I'm waiting on my bullhorns to get here so I can use my Nitto stem and cut my fork down some more. Until then I'm using risers and the SE Strangler stem.

Thanks. It's 28lbs and border-line jack-assery, but the tires really provide an interesting feel to the ride. Strange thing is you'd wouldn't guess it's that heavy by how it rides, but climbing is when the weight is most noticed. Overall, its super fun

They don't sell DJ/street bikes that's the only size that frame comes in.

Clearance on rear tire is 1" I've had it down as low as 1/4". The ride feels off any higher than that.
