This for the win. I rode those for years until I gave up clipless. Thinking of getting another pair though.

No point in that. If I'm not riding my road bike today, I'm just wearing normal shoes.

But when I do ride and have to walk around in the Mavics, I do so shamelessly

Not hating, I'm just not sure I understand why you're showing off full-on cycling shoes when the OP asked about street shoes. And if you walk around in those Mavics, aren't you concerned about chewing up the cleat and/or the floor where you're walking?

Just to throw it out there:

I had a brief stint with some MW Rondels and DZR Ovis. Both are nice-looking, but they each had the same problem. When backpedaling, you're pulling directly on the shoes' uppers. The uppers are made of pretty soft leather, so I could feel the stretch every time I pulled up. It creates a really sloppy feeling, certainly not the "ultimate power transfer" I was expecting. I went back to Scrod's Catalina straps. I doubt any casual clipless shoe can offer as much control.

Also, the sizing of both models is totally f'd up: My feet are 27 cm long, which puts me right in standard men's size 10's. I'm between an 8 and a 9 in DZR/MW offerings.

Maybe im just picky, but all the shoes mentioned so far in this thread are fugly. Not to mention those vans look like orthopedics.

Honestly. Ive used the chrome kursck pro shoes. They are okay. Little bulky but look fine to me. But you're still going to get the click clak noise. I used them for a while but found the sole not to be very stiff.
But for the price they are excellent.

I broke down and bought a really BLUE pair of sidi dominators. They are blue and look 100% like cycling shoes, but they look badass! Be proud of wearing cycling shoes. Mine are super blue love, don't match anything but that's OKAY to me.

Be proud to ride.

Saw a pair of these at the Seattle Bike Expo. Nice looking shoes. I haven't ridden in them but the soles were reasonably stiff.

I gave up the search for "not fugly" + functional clipless street shoes a while ago. Judging by the looks of this thread, it's about time you (OP) did so as well. I don't know what else to tell ya. I just use clips and straps and they work fine. If I needed performance (racing) I'd use racing shoes and pedals.

love my rondels.

if you don't like pulling up with them, tighten the laces.

thinking about another pair when these die. i've had them for a little under a year and worn them most days.

Ehhh, there's no argument on comfort going on here. OP knows that there are plenty of comfortable SPD shoes in the market. He just wants some purty ones.

I'm just sayin' even my fugly full-on cycling shoes are less visually "offensive" than those Sonomas.

Don't read too much into it. Welcome to the internets. Sorry I hurt your Sonomas' feelings.

well, since adidas samba spds dont exist, i was looking for any options i could possibly be unaware of, and apparently there is nothing that good-looking (in my opinion) out there.

rondels, dzr, and chrome and pretty much the most non offensive in the looks department. leaning towards the rondels.

i did notice blogger prolly not probably has an all black shoe collaboration coming with DZR so i might hang on for that. i wear allot of black, and all black shoes would be ideal. the chromes are that, but im not totally sold on the converse allstar-esque type shoe design. plus i have two pairs of kursck (non spd) i got for free (turds for gold program....roommate did it too but his didn't fit and gave them to me)

This thread has me quite interested, my straps have been giving me troubles and the rondels are very much my thing. Are they actually as green as they look in the photos?

Laces didn't do it for me. That was my first reaction. I even went so far as to relace them with less-stretchy laces. Nothing.

Power transfer is nowhere near as good as straps (let alone decent clipless shoes)

It'd be cool if Asics made a street-walkable Onitsuka. Kind of like these, but I don't think the clips are recessed on this home-made pair:

These are not clipless compatible...?

These, however, are.

I have these too! And I have to admit, they don't seem too goofy... Then Again I did run Track in high school, and these are no worse than those.

Here's a post I made about my DZR's

For the question of yours that isn't answered in my other post, they aren't all spd. Time ATAC and Crank Brothers cleats should also fit any shoes with a two bolt pattern. Most three bolt cleats won't be fun to walk around in anyways.
