I just ordered the Chrome Kursk. I will let you know how I like them. NOT fugly at all In my opinion. They look like chucks. I currently have the Bontrager Street. Great shoes for cycling and walking a bit, kinda obvious cycling shoes.... I also have a Pair of Answers that look like skate shoes. Those are great looking off the bike too, but I can't find a link for you. They are an older model. Perhaps that is why. Sixsixone makes a pair that look like skate shoes as well. I would say the Chrome Kursk is gonna be my main cycling shoe ( if they work out) when I want to go in town and not be a geek wearing fugly cycling shoes. I have noticed a lot of companies are finally making cycling clothes that are stylish on and off the bike but the shoes... eh... Chrome seems to be getting it.

I've had some Chrome kursk Pro's for a couple weeks now. I use them with egg beater cleats. The shoes are nice, the cleat recess in the soles and they don't contact the ground while walking. Like the op I didn't like the looks of cycling shoes. I wanted something a Little more "normal". Now that I have these, I realize that maybe biking shoes are ok.
I was riding to the gym the other day in workout clothes. The Kursk shoes looked ridiculous. I didn't have a choice though. I was shopping for some shorts the other day and I found myself wondering how they'd look with the Kursks. if I'm wearing Kursks what kind of socks? No socks?
Basically with the Kursks I'm wondering how they look. With regular dorky bike shoes I probably wouldn't care and everyone would recognize them as bike shoes and nobody else would care either.
Nice shoes, I'm just not quite personally sold on them now that I'm wearing them.

So good looking but so expensive too. wish the sole was black instead of white. they are also available in black with red stitching & black sole.

I really like DZRs and Rondles. The only issue I have is that they are all lace up. I personally like Velcro Straps just for ease of tightening, and I feel more secure in them...not sure why.

Just got my Kursk pro's and as promised I would let you know how they are working out. Total shoe love! I also just got a Bern helmet and loving that too! No more geek cycling helmets or skating/biking helmets that look like I am trying to be 14 again. So sorry... off topic there. Back to the shoes. They perform just like any other clip less cycling shoe and you can walk in them a bit with no noise or feeling awkward. They go well with anything and look great. I am the type that gets cycling clothes and gear that look good on and off the bike yet perform well. Answer also makes some decent shoes that look like skate shoes. I have had those for a couple years. I don't know what is recent from them. Oh and also Sixsixone makes a pretty decent looking skate shoe style. Good luck with your choice, and yes there are shoes that are not fugly like you are looking for. :-) I have three pairs so far. By far the Kursk I know I will use the most now.

Ah urban street clipless shoes -- it's kinda like buying all-weather tires - they're mediocre in all requirements. They're lousy cycling shoes because they're not stiff enough, they're ****ty street shoes and are only comfortable when compared to walking on a bed of needles, and they look terrible compared to other shoes. On top of that -- they're expensive.

I've been wearing Chrome Kursk Pro's for a couple of weeks now. They're actually a great cycling shoe. Stiff enough to be efficient and not have you feeling the pedal through the shoe, but obviously not as stiff as my carbon soled road shoes or mtb shoes. They don't walk as well as my regular Chrome Kursks due to the increased stiffness. There's a fair amount of heal slip when walking because of the stiff sole, but they're decent enough to wear while hanging out and stuff. I certainly wouldn't want to go on a walking tour or hike with them. There is a slight amount of clicking when walking on pavement with crank bros cleats installed. There was a ton of clicking with spd cleats installed since they're a bit bigger than the crank bros cleats. We'll see if the shoes/cleats will wear in and either increase or decrease the clicking. Already there has been major improvements over the first day I wore them as far as walking goes. I think they're breaking in a bit, which is good. This was also true of my regular Kursks -- very umcomfy at first, but break in nicely. I give the Kursk Pros a C+ for walking, an A- for riding, and like a B+ overall.
