It's not for everyone, but it should be something to try before making a decision, it is perfectly fine to run a front and rear brake on a fixed gear.

Sometimes I buy bike parts for the looks. I have a Trek T1 with a decently light wheelset. I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to rock some deep v's on it though. It would add some weight to the wheels, which would suck, but i think it would make me even more pumped to ride it. (although i ride like 25 miles a day or so anywho already...but still haha)

frantik 04-13-11 09:18 PM

^ do you mean brakeless or just SS in general?

Dannihilator 04-13-11 09:30 PM

I confess that my favorite bike as of now is my ugliest bike.

JoshuaaXDD 04-13-11 09:30 PM

I confess that I love things that require a lot of maintenance.

Also a big confession, I haven't ridden in over two weeks because I bought another car and I actually enjoy it.

ss in general. i only had one brake on it, tho, so that was what made it scary. but i have a cog so i preferred flipping it than investing in a rear brake. especially since i like the control of my feet to slow the rear wheel.

this is the only time i've ever ridden ss in my life and it lasted... 8 days.

cc700 04-13-11 10:25 PM

i confess that i really want to make myself put a brake on one or both of my fixed gears but i can't

have you ridden other bikes with freewheels? that's crazy to think of people who ride bikes a lot but aren't comfortable on a traditional bike.. i guess i could see how it might feel like you are "out of control" if you're used to a fixed gear

Know one ever thinks other people tuck. At least in the cooler climate states, like here in Michigan, i tuck all the time! My toes would freeze if i didnt...

dansjustchillin 04-14-11 12:25 AM

The tuck insures your feet don't pop out the end and get all cold. Good stuff.

cc700 04-14-11 12:29 AM

i want to sell all my bikes cept the cannondale and get a set of clincher zipps then just ride that everywhere.

i won't lock up when other people stop i'll just keep riding and when i need to buy groceries i'll ride my bike through the store.

jdgesus 04-14-11 01:02 AM

ppl bring their bikes into the madison co-op all the time, so, your instincts are spot on (or maybe that was you all 4 times.......................................................................)

RoadJerk 04-14-11 01:29 AM

I confess that:

I've always wanted a super short stem, just because of how it looks.

I've always wanted risers, just because how it looks.

I've always wanted it murdered out, because it looks awesome.

I've always wanted to ride a frame too small for me with a huge seat-to-bar drop, because I feel more aero, poised, but mostly because it looks more aggressive.

I've always wanted to make my own fake disc wheel, cause it looks awesome.

I've always wanted to keep my ****ty, thin 48 tooth chainring+crank that I salvaged from an old touring gruppe just because 48 tooth is slightly larger than 46 and I like how it looks better and nobody else has one.

I've ridden brakeless since day one, just because I was too lazy and impatient to put the brake on, and I never considered it since.

I've always wanted a fixed gear from day one, only because how it feels.

I've done all these things, And I'm not ashamed to keep doing them.

cc700 04-14-11 01:43 AM

i ride slower than 5mph down hills because i don't want to die and i don't want to buy new tires all the time and i don't trust drivers and i don't like brakes.

i race other commuters.

i want to ride fenderless because it looks so much better and i could give a **** about all these clubriding rando tarckbear *******s.

eat my spray *****es!

cc700 04-14-11 01:50 AM

also:

i want everything that Rapha makes.

hairnet 04-14-11 02:21 AM

I'm too tall to tuck my feet in :(

Butthash 04-14-11 02:54 AM

When I first got onto BFSSFG, I thought everyone had a conversion, and legit track frames were for rich track racers.... :(

Retem 04-14-11 03:53 AM

I carry a woobie (military poncho liner blanket thing) with me everywhere
I hated it when I worked at the local coop and these ******* would come in with a nice frame and some flashy parts and ask me to help them build a suicide hub because they ran out of money
I am in love with this little korean 26" road bike this guy rides around here it is so ridiculous its awesome
I have found myself bored in a foreign country
I love korean food
I am afraid to ride my bike off post here because korean drivers will kill you (I am not in seoul I am in the country)

vw addict 04-14-11 05:48 AM

I'm too lazy to clean my bikes, or lube their chains
