Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Today I started riding to work, then thought "Looks like rain," so I turned around, put the bike away, and walked to the train station.

I am very often overwhelmed by the urge to sell my bikes and start shopping for a car.

The only reason I haven't sold my track bike yet is the cool-factor of having a first generation Affinity.

The only reason I haven't sold my road bike yet is the cool-factor of my hand-built Campy to Velocity wheelset.

I just don't enjoy riding ten miles through the hood to get to work/school anymore.

I have three Kryptonite locks and one of them has only been used once.

I have a pair of old-school cycling shoes with slotted cleats that I have never used.

Lately, I only ride my bikes when the weather is nice. If it's hotter than 85degrees or the forecast has a raincloud in it, I leave them at home.

All this depresses me a little bit.

I confess that I went from leaving my truck on the driveway for weeks and riding my bike everywhere to driving almost every day all because I got a little 4 banger rice rocket. ='( WHAT HAVE I BECOME?? I'M A MONSTER!!!

this thread is actually a little depressing...

if you ride your bike more all your problems will vanish into thin air...

I haven't been riding, save commuting, since last winter and I lost a bit of the spark in riding, although not to the extent you seem to be feeling. THe last several weeks I have been making routes out to places I like riding and rolling out at night (my favorite). Good alone time riding with no distractions really has reminded me why I love bicycles. I guess try to break out of habitual riding and get back to what hooked you in the beginning

Yeah I feel ya. On the rare occasions that I do get out to take a leisure ride I enjoy it, but that's been less and less lately. The one thing I used to love about riding was the "cowboy" aspect of it. Being independent, faster than anything else on wheels, wind in my hair, etc., and I still like that sometimes. I think I'm just getting to a point where I don't want to build my day around the ride anymore, so I'd rather walk, use public transportation, carry an umbrella, and get where I'm going clean and dry.

Rode to reggae show tonight.

Enjoyed the music.

All I could think about though, was how good my old set of locks was by comparison. Oh, they was gooder.

TC: Way better than Scrods. Zoinks!

I can't resist a good deal. I will buy something if it's a good price even if I don't need it yet.

I have an issue paying a lot for shipping if it's a small purchase and sometimes will add **** to my order just to justify flat shipping rates

I'm terrible at wrapping bars unless it has a lot of stretch in it.

I don't trust myself to break a chain anymore. I impatiently took a link out of my current chain earlier and did some damage, luckily I had another link sitting around. I just paid a LBS to put my new rides chain on

I bought a nice shimano 105 brake two months ago but got comfortable riding brakeless, then had an 'oh ****' moment with a car pulling out in front of me and swore I'd put it on the next day. That was 6 weeks ago. I still got a H+son SL42 put on my front in my new build, instead of formation face, just because I told myself "you might want a brake one day!"

I used to be in love with aerospokes but when I see dual aerospokes I barf a little.

I want to ride the ms150 fixed this year but the hills on day 2 are a concern. htfu yeah yeah, but a lot of the climbs rely on the big drop from the previous hill so I'd also be in people's way as they coast their asses down the hill and then power through the next one.

I want to organize a group ride to the campus monday-friday at 10am or so or possibly for the ride home, but don't think young Houston bikers in my area like riding their bike as much as they like locking it up outside of the coffee shops

My two fixed gear bikes have been tore apart for the last couple months and I have been riding my geared bikes because I am too lazy to put them back together. And I haven't done a thing to the geared bikes other than put air in the tires.....
