Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Hahaha I'm the same way. Totally neurotic about my things being pristine. Even my cat has to be pristine!!!

And idk about that. Lots of really intense bike people in my city. I mean I just want to hit the trails and ride along the lake, not be hardcore. The dumb thing is that I have plenty of friends who say they want to ride with me, but unlike them I actually do want to ride my bike... so nothing ever pans out cause they probably only have a bike for living room decor.
Haha, I know what you mean about the decor thing.

If you do find out about a local fixed forum, just make a post and ask people if they want to ride. Not to sound sexist or anything, but sex does sell when it comes to riding bikes with guys. Like my friend, she's like one of the more active members on the fixed forum in Vancouver, and a lot of hungry hungry hipsters want to ride with her, but then they all found out she had boyfriend and disappeared.

That's dramatic but I suppose I'm somewhat the same. I don't mind the paint chipping or anything, I just don't want my tape to tear.

That sounds dangerous. I really don't do well with fawning boys in whom I'm not interested. So annoying. (But if they're cute then it's okay.)

It's going to be hard to find bike buddies if you can't tolerate the fawning boys, because SSFG is a pretty massive sausage fest.

I'll just add the line "cuties only" to my post.

I was fascinated by the above conversation.

And I accidentally purchased a pursuit bike today.

"Cuties only."

Wanted a pursuit bike.

TI still on the list. Need to get rid of Cervelo.

When i'm on a ride with my ex, I ride twice as hard.
I got the balls to call her on her dangerous riding.
I hate the fact she hangs all over guys and then walks into every conversation I have with a girl on night rides.
I think she reads these forums.

Yup, drunk bought a pursuit bike. Thought I learned my lesson. But no. It'll ship out next week-ish.

Always wanted one, told myself I'd never get one because of the complete impracticalness of them, bought one.

I've always call the Cervelo, Churr-velll-ohh. Guy at the shop thinks otherwise. But whatevz, y'know.

I like clicking my sqrl, even I know where it goes.

I tarck stand and ride in circle in the garage when I feel like it.

I'm particular about pronunciation of bike names.

Confession---I am impressed by this confession. Deep.

If I could actually play WoW. I would try, and sell items on the black market.

Do not have the adequate gaming tactics, though. Or devices.

Used to work with a group of folks who were well invested in the game. Tried to get me into the trial version for missions and what not, but I had no idea what they were talking about.

Have you tried to find some riding friends at UWM? Lots of SSFG love around campus, although a lot of the bikes might just be fashion statements.

Bikes: Peugot 1980 Road FG Convert

Must admit. My fixed gear is converted from a vintage Puegeot which I built up last summer by myself having decided I will need a bike for university. Its a strong, well build frame and has a classic look but I'm a university student, which means I am poor and cannot afford a Super Pista Frameset from Bianchi. Even though I am riding on Alexrims (inb4 "ouch"
"alexrims sucks" I KNOW that why I bought them. I AM POOR) but that doesn't mean I shouldn't be allowed to own a fixie.

Bikes: 1976 Raleigh sprite converted to fixed gear, and a 1969 schwinn twinn deluxe, a 1985 Panasonic fixed gear conversion, unknown track frame.

Like so many others... I hate the word "fixie"

Actually it's "sir-vay-lo" except the vay is more like between an "ay" and "ey" sounds. Just shorten the vowel and you'll be fine, if you pronounce with a long english sounding vowel it sounds wonky.

-I can't trackstand worth a crap, but I still try it at almost every light and almost always end up nearly falling over, then play it off like I meant to.
-I think Aerospokes are completely impractical and make your bike a huge theft target, but I want a white 5-spoked one SO badly.
-I finally learned how to bust mad skidz and now do so far too much.
-I'm afraid to take the brake off my bike.
-I secretly hope people look at me as I ride by.
-Hipster girls turn me on.

Haha I don't really want to make friends with random undergrads who ride fixed geared bikes around UWM.
