Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

They are supposedly just as aerodynamic as a front disc and they're handle much easier than a disc.

They are light, very strong, and very aerodynamic. When you win and lose *big* and *important* races by fractions of a second, every bit helps. They work.

Zipp 808s have been proven to be just as aero, but Mavics are far more popular.

Oh, and I know the dude in the first photo. He was pretty hipsterific with her purchases. He had lots of money and bought lots of official track stuff just to be different and unique...then ride it on the street for the attention. He's all about getting attention and wants to be the envy of others.

That should be his polo bike, then he'll really blow minds.
