Most roadies are really nice guys that enjoy the ride and/or working too hard to care to have an attitude. The dicks are usually the slow ones that try to look cool and take their frustration out on others. But you all probably know that already |

I've only had one guy tell me "wouldn't it be easier with gears?" as I was mashing up a hill. I thought is was pretty presumptuous of him to assume I only own one bike.

today I damaged the paint on my soma
I was in downtown, meeting some guy I didn't want to meet to sell him a helmet I didn't want. On the way back I notice a unh in my pedal rotation, figure something is lose and I'll check on it when I get home (4 or so miles). I continue and it gets worse, I turn off my headphones and it's loud as hell, so loud I forgot I could feel it. So I start looking at my front wheel/hub (while still moving) wondering if something is going on with it (where it sounded like it was coming from). Finally get off a main road, miles later (should've done it sooner, but the "on my way home" thought screwed me) and notice its the back of my chainring. A chainring bolt had come loose while I was riding and had started rubbing up against the frame.. every rotation and all the way up it, for several miles, through the CC and all. It's already a super close fit with my frame so that bolt was just the icing on the cake to finally dig into my paint job. Aesthetically I don't really care for myself... it's in a place most people won't notice, but should help destroy any resale value down the road |
hmm scratch that. that was just another problem. the back of the bolts... every single one... some more than others. are hitting the chainstay at every single point. wtf

... almost had both calves lock up on a big descent that I do at least 9x a week. Very embarrassing and close to a wipeout. Why does this seem to happen on days that I eat bananas?

hamfoh - I'm not really too sure what would cause this because once your nds crank arm is tight, it bottoms out on the spindle and clearance is what it is. Unless your spindle somehow shrunk....... |

Here's some pics. Actually the first time I've taken these completely off, had a local biker put this crankset/bb on when I built up the soma. no idea what the brown splooge is. feel like it's possible the bb wasn't threaded in properly, pulled out steel 'pube' when removing drive side.
crank arms were on there tight as sin, took my entire body weight to remove the NDS. |
The brown gunk is most likely just grease mixed with a little rust from water getting in there. Clean everything up, regrease and reinstall. There really aren't too many ways one can screw up installing a GXP BB and I find it really odd that it wasn't hitting at first and then suddenly started.

it was always in a 'too close for comfort' range, but cleared, then suddenly my frame pissed it off and it went to town on it. truly confused.

Today I had my longest single day of riding since getting my bike almost 2 weeks ago.
Normal commute of almost 4 miles to work. Summer Friday schedule, then rode about another 20, then home for a total of almost 25 miles this afternoon. Not a crazy amount, but I was wearing my work clothes w/ my messenger bag and I'm exhausted. Pretty great way to spend a Friday afternoon. EDIT: Just realized I also hit the 100-mile mark in total on the bike. |
Took a ride out in the country, fully loaded. Mile 32, the bead separates from the sidewall on my front tire. I didn't bring a spare, because I took the advice of some ****ing idiot on the internet instead of trusting my gut. My wife had to come pick me up, 6 miles away from my destination.
Got a sick tan line though. |
Did my normal 40mi (one-way) commute from SF -> Mountain View on my fixed gear for the first time (I am a roadie. I know, I know: ewwww). I wasn't even that slow! Max speed of 33.8mph with a 17mph average. /confetti

today I took the 725 on our ghost ride (20+ more aggressive version of CM here that's about 30-50 people instead of 300) - neck is kinda killing me from being on top of drops most of the way. I feel nice and tight though, around mile 20 my crotch started to beg for mercy, but I told it to HTFU because it's not getting a wet diaper as Scrod would say for anything under 40.

Saddle angle and seatpost height need tweeking.... bite your lip (usually the case behind seatposts set too high is cosmetical) and try lowering it. :)

Today, I basically rode all day. Rode into work early. Picked some stuff up and dropped off while riding. Rode downtown for lunch, rode back to work. rode home. rode to my buddies house for dinner / beer / hangout. rode home.
