Today i was unable to sleep in on my only day off due to the fact that theyre repaving my street since 6 am.

My street didnt even need paving. Most of the roads i ride on for my commute are basically mtb obstacle courses, fix those!

yummygooey 04-05-13 10:24 AM

calv 04-05-13 10:31 AM

Sw8t

I think I'm going to buy an impreza hatch in a few months.

yummygooey 04-05-13 10:42 AM

imo the regular mazda 3 is more fun to drive than the regular impreza. AWD is cool but seems kind of useless for CA.

but i also like the MS3 more than the WRX so maybe i'm biased. why $30k and only 5 speed manual? WRX is also hecka 'spensive for insuranzzzz... almost twice as much as the MS3 for me.

i'd drive an STI tho, dat 6 speed

MS3 has 6 speedz and is $10k less

not sayin # gears makes the 2 cars comparable at all

but just sayin

Yeah seems like Mazda 3 and Impreza are the top choices for the sub 20k group. I've heard people from both sides saying each is funner to drive. Some say the Impreza feels sluggish compared to the Mazda 3. Although I guess AWD could come in handy every half a year or something..

If money wasn't an issue or I didn't have a need for a hatch, I'd pick the RX-8 or Miata any day.

yeah that was my derp, i duz reed engrish in backwurdz

which has more hp? that usually effects insurance cost a lot, as well as fuel consumption these days iirc

Auto or manual? CVT in the Impreza is weird! But kind of cool/interesting at the same time. The Mazda is zippy and handles well for a sub-$20k car, and gets pretty good fuel economy if that's your thing (wasn't a factor for me). Mazda has had higher reliability ratings lately, but Subaru does have a legacy of great reliability.

IMO, AWD isn't that useful for normal driving. Even in Seattle (where it rains 99% of the year) FWD is fine. If it snows in CA, you should just go hide in a hole.

Today I'm thinking about quitting smoking.

Manual, unless my girlfriend doesn't want to learn (AKA I drive her everywhere). Manual is usually the cheaper option, anyway.

From the site, it says the Mazda 3 5 door starts at 20k, and the Impreza starts at ~17-18k. I have trust in Mazdas, I've had a Miata and RX-7 that has lasted me well. This would be my first Subaru.

The Mazda 3 gets like.. +10 mpg on the highway I think. That's always a plus.

I think the WRX and MS3 are pretty comparable in terms of HP and fuel efficiency. The STI is faster in tests cuz of AWD. If you're buying either of these cars you shouldn't really care about fuel efficiency anyways (though I've been getting 26/27mpg average calculated at the pump!!)

And I think the stock STI has about 30-40 more HP than the MS3.

I could speculate that the increase in insurance cost for the WRX is due to all these 17 year old rich bois modding and driving their cars like wannabe Ken Blocks. With a perfect driving record, the insurance company wanted $200/month to insure a WRX and $110/month for the MS3 (and about $100/month for a regular 3). I had a friend that said she was quoted $4k/year for WRX insurance. NUTS!!

Teach her! Manual is easy. Took me 3 minutes and two stalls, and after that I was good to go.

In my experience, it's way easier to haggle with Mazda than with Subaru. In the end they'll probably be about the same cost. The sale price on my MS3 was about $4k below MSRP if I remember correctly (got owned by TTL tho).

It's not a matter of me teaching her, it's a matter if she wants to be taught. I would if I had any manual transmission cars ATM.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to see which one I could haggle with more. Lowest price gets my choice.
