Street rider 09-25-11 07:26 PM

Today I went for a quick, 10ish mile, really hard ride, and then quickly changed shoes and went for a run. Hella tight muscles for the last 4 hours is no fun.

For what it's worth, I have around the same amount of drop on my road bike with a Brooks Swift, and it feels just dandy to me.

Today I,
Did the 10 mile ride to work on my fixed ride for the first time in a while. Rocked the track drops because I like it spicy. Did the last few blocks on the way home with no hands. Forgot what I was missing.

Today I woke up with a swollen cheek and puffy eye because I took a bee sting to the face yesterday afternoon.

My first race is Sunday. Today it was really rainy and cold and 4 blocks into my commute, I actually turned around, planning to take the bus. Then I realized that this was perfect CX training so I turned *back* around and rode the whole 10 miles. My bike clothes and shoes are now laid across the HVAC vents in my cube to dry...

 that's awesome. yeah practice is super key, especially barrier technique. make some pvc barriers (or session with someone who has them) so you can get the whole mount remount thing down. bike handling is important too but it's also a good way to get a face full of dirt before work, which I would totally dig but your coworkers may feel differently.

i love this sport. it is the most exhausting thing i've ever done on a bike. it's beyond excitement. enjoy your first race!

Eh, we have showers and a locker room so I'm relatively presentable now. I haven't done barriers yet (hahahahaha I'm so stupid) but have plans for a practice session on Thursday. Having watched women's cat 4, the fact that I know how to dismount properly already puts me ahead of at least a handful of women. I'm hoping my endurance from a daily 20mi commute will help too.

I think the commute this morning was important because it reminded me that it's fun to get wet and dirty if you don't sit there feeling sorry for yourself. I'm a winter commuter so I know this, but I forgot.

Yesterday I made another $50 on Pokemon cards. Total so far is about $175 (minus like $12 for all the shipping), just for my duplicates! I estimate my primary collection to be worth at least $5,000. Not that I'd sell it. :thumb:

Do me a favor and hang on to them til November/December? I gotta save as much $$ as possible until then, since I'm in the midst of an interstate move. But once I'm settled in Idaho I'll have some expendable income.

Sure thing. They're still sitting somewhere at my old house. Haha

Today I am contemplating purchasing a bike trainer. Just did a small search and saw the one Performance has on sale for 89.99.

Anybody ever use these Ascent mag trainers before? I'm not looking for anything spectacular just something for "riding" in the Ohio winter haha http://images1.americanlisted.com/nl...om_8534150.jpg

Better trainers provide more of a real-world feel and will be more enjoyable to ride. I definitely say try before you buy.

I've ridden ones like in the photo you provide and they just feel like bleh and they are not nice to ride at all.

I don't know what your budget is, but if you can afford it, try to find a higher quality one either new or preferably used.

Is there a big difference between high-end and low-end rollers as well?
