Let the guy go, 2 miles down the road there he is stopped on the side of the road with a no longer functioning rear shifter. Started to come down in buckets. On the way home, I had 2 very lucky moments, first was on the homebound route the one section of road started to flood at 2 spots. The 2nd I didn't notice until I got home and wiped down the chain and noticed the only thing holding the quicklink on the chain together was a full pin and less than a third of a pin on the inside half of the quicklink. Threw a new one on there and all is now good.
Glad you made it. Did you help the roadie?

As much as I could, not much one can do with a no longer functioning roadshifter except cut the chain and single speed home or to a lbs.

I bet that was one very awkward moment for him. Nonetheless roadie cockyness never pays off.

Today I took my bike to work, brought all my riding gear....

...and forgot a towel, so I didn't ride (BOO!)

A man with a towel is clearly a man to be reckoned with.

Reference anyone?

Still day 1 riding the fixed. Did about 30 miles today. Going down hills is ****ing scary. I'm so glad I left this front brake on.... Hahaha. I almost want to go back to freewheel, but I won't let myself do it.

Also got new brake pads today.

Jaytron, keep your front brake on and make sure that it's maintained and adjusted regularly. Riding fixed is something that takes a little time to adjust to; eventually it becomes second nature. If you want to learn to skid you may want to lower the gearing on your bike unless you have buff legs. I personally don't bother skidding because I don't like eating through tires faster than I need to. I run 52/16 gearing and would have to stand up and really smash back on the pedals to skid; I only weigh 145lbs.

I'm running 48/17 now, I should be ok with skidding I think, we'll see. I'm definitely going to keep that front brake on there. I probably won't skid much even if I learn because I want to save my knees from blowing out, haha.

I've only ridden with 52/16 so I wouldn't know how any other ratio felt. Your gearing sounds pretty reasonable, though.

This week I started counting calories.

My body fat % is around 15%. Need to get it to 10%.

I think I'm turning into one of those people.

With quads like that, probably not.

Trimming fat, must be happy with your mass.

Second look, verging on being one of those people.

Quads really filled out to the max?

My quads have been 73-74cm (28.7-29") for a while now. Not getting any bigger no matter how much I lift. I'm getting stronger but not bigger. But, also, I don't lift for hypertrophy anyway. I lift for strength and power, which counter-intuitively doesn't add mass like hypertrophy lifting does.

Losing several lbs would do wonders for my performance. I've never really dieted before. I always figured that I burned enough calories so what does it matter. Apparently it does matter

Hitchhiker's Guide, duh.

Today I had a 20mph (with gusts up to 40mph) tailwind on the way in to work. It was great except the waves from Lake Michigan were crazy and took over the lake front path, so I got soaked even though it wasn't raining. And the ride home will be brutal.

at least you don't live in a windy city

stayed up late installing my VO rando rack and trying to modify an army surplus bag to fit on it. i'm most of the way there i just need to sew on some velcro straps, accessory pockets, and the decaleur loop, then a better closure system. then i have to replace the cardboard i cut with plastic. so i basically haven't done anything.

Bikes: Absolutely

Got my first bike fit. I have a really short torso, so slamming the saddle forward always felt more comfortable to me, but I was afraid of being "jackass." Sure enough, the fitter slammed my saddle forward. He pointed out to me that I have a setback seatpost, so hopefully that will be an improvement to make in the next couple of weeks.

Ack, did you have extra clothes at least?

Today was my second commute on fixed. It's much better today, no "surprise you can't coast idiot" moments today.

Lakefront path is the worst. I seriously hate that thing for multiple reasons.

That's actually not why it's called The Windy City.

Yay! You'll be a rockstar before you know it. And yes, I shower and change once I get to work so I had clothes. My bike clothes are drying on the HVAC vent and will be ready to go by the end of the day.

Not me, but just to show what was going on this morning:

Or an idiot. If you ride the trail regularly, you know that section is always the first to be taken over by waves. So considering how bad the waves were elsewhere, I bailed for the streets before I got to that part.
