more coghouse fun.
i get they probably didn't look over 99% of this stuff with mass orders like this (and I'm guessing a lot shipping straight from leader hq) but forks like this have no business being listed as 'new'. throw it in a 'demo/used' section ala~ scrod. And to think a small gash on my headtube was enough for me to send a frame back one upon a time I veer from retro-g for one day and I pay for it! |

Don't worry everyone, I am meeting Bryan for drinks after work but *really* what I'm going to do is examine his arm and nag him to go to a doctor or the ER if I deem it necessary. (Shhh don't tell him; it's a trap!)
I have been accused by friends of being a mother hen. Yeah, maybe. |

Today may have been the final straw with the mtb. Rebuilt the hub yesterday and that's working well now. Today I go out to get a street session in and had stopped by a coffee shop to have some coffee and to warm up a bit when I started to hear buzzing and the back end of the bike wobbling and didn't hit anything on a bad angle to knock it out. Look to see seven spokes broken clean off at the rim with the spoke nipples still on the spokes(aka rim cracked.) Had my coffee, walk bike back to car head to the lbs and replace the rim. I've built plenty of rims in the past so I get the wheel built in an hour. Go and continue said street session, drop off of a loading dock and thought I landed it good. Didn't think anything was wrong until I go to put the bike on the bike rack, I managed to put a massive crack on the rim that was on there. :notamused: Now I'm pissed, and have to see if I have a rim laying around to replace this rim and from there I am going tok take some time to decide on whether I part the bike out, sell it as a whole, trade in for some road wheels for the Six13, or keep it.
Got home changed and got a road ride in, being that I was not in the best of moods, I hammered on the 930, and managed to smack into a pothole while going 24mph when almost back home. When I pull into the driveway checked the rear wheel to see what damage occured to that wheel, to my surprise it wasn't even knocked out of true, no flat spots on the rim and the rear tire wasn't pinch flatted. So apparently the 930 is tougher than the DMR. |
Today my friend sold me some bottle cages and a Cane Creek S-3 for $10 and some beers.
Then I proceeded to swap out my King HS for the Cane Creek 'cuz the King needs to get sent back to King for some fixin'. |

This is where you discover that you like the cane creek headset more than the Chris King.

It still hurts and is kind of swollen, but ignoring pain makes it go away right? Combine that theory with copious amounts of rum, and I'll be ok.
Unless you're just kidding, then carry on. |

Yea... actually, I don't really see a reason I would need anything better than the Cane Creek. But I have the King and it's super steezy so Imma use it when it gets fixed.

got some mail today, a big leader box leaning against my door (thrilled).

Truth be said, there are better headsets out there for much less than a king, the hypocrisy that runs rampant in that company over the years has turned me off.
1st: Was the whole bottom bracket thing that was on their site for ages it seemed. When it finally came out it, 2 months later press in bottom brackets started taking a hold on road and mtb. Not to mention the bb is $120 and to be serviced you need to get their tool. 2nd: They said they would never make a headset for 1.5" headtubes.... Guess what back in 2008 I believe, they released a headset for 1.5" headtubes. 3rd: If you need to service a hub you need to order their entire kit, which costs $200, when all you need to get the axle and free hub body out is a basic hex wrench, and you have to use their oil in their hubs. Any of the aftermarket stuff isn't "good enough". 4th: They said they would never make an integrated headset. Guess what came out 2 years ago from them... An integrated headset. |
Road to work, then road to my wife's work so we could ride home together. Had a nice ride through downtown and back to home, although it was cold.
Coming down a hill to a redlight, we saw some guy fly by us in the car lane and attempt some kind of maneuver to slow down. I'm guessing he was trying to skid but it didn't work out and he tried to keep his balance. He slammed into the ground on his left side and slid a little bit, then he sat up and threw his bike off himself in anger or disgust (I'm guessing). I felt bad for the guy because it looked like it hurt like hell and his bike might have taken significant damage, but I was shocked that someone would ride that fast down a hill when the signal is red. |
just ate so much mexican food I'm pretty sure I'd snap my frame in half if I attempted to ride
|
^dude.. same here. i ate so many tacos ;X

Is there ever enough mexican food?

Today, my arm hurts but it's manageable. Also, I'm miserable because I got drug downtown to do Christmas shopping. Downtown Chicago on a Saturday in December is my idea of hell. There are other reasons I'm pissed at the world, but that's pretty high on the list at the moment.
