^ nice pick up, I really like the gold one and will be waiting on pics of the raw as well. I just ordered a blue one.:giver:

Today I got some new straps from Retrogression... I'm excited to try out clips and straps!

xavier853 11-25-11 09:29 AM

Today, I applied for "bill me later" on eBay... This could be very, very bad... (but also good)

Gearing on the 930 is 42x15 which is what I've been using since late last year when the 930 got converted.

It's just a good gearing for me, and the bike fits me perfectly, which is a help.

That's what I ride too.

I have a 18t on the other side of the hub for ez stuff.

Yeah be careful with that. They give you a long time to pay it back, but 20% interest (and credit hell) if you're late.

Scrodzilla 11-25-11 11:20 AM

Seriously, screw that whole "Bill me later" bull****. With all the "incentives" and jibber jabber, eBay is sugar-coating that they are convincing people to spend more money than they have and the interest rate is outlandish.

20mph, while fast (especially over 48mi) is not unheard of. I've ridden a ****ty kilott w/ fixed 42x14 on my commute (40mi, mostly flat except for the first 2-3miles) and been able to keep up with my roadie pals. The ride I linked is a 17.7avg. I routinely do that ride on my roadbike @ 19+mph averages. In the morning, that route has a steady headwind of 5-12mph. One of the strongest riders in our group rides a custom Ti Seven FG and he breaks the 20mph avg barrier regularly, despite the hills in the beginning and the headwind.

SO, what does this mean? It means you should maybe not be so quick to judge. Yes average speed can vary so much that it's almost useless (everyone should just get power meters amirite?) but that doesn't mean everyone is just blowing smoke up your ass. There are strong riders out there, I promise ;) Also, +1 for not turning this into the 41.

Where exactly is this judgement you speak of?
I still contend that one of my original three conditions still applies, and I accept that it might be that he is a strong rider.

I just wanted to hear it straight from the horses mouth.

Sorry for being so testy, it's just that avg speed talk (and other inane 41-type conversation) really pushes my buttons sometimes.
Also, I may have been hungry and devoid of any alcohol at that point on my turkey day celebration.
Oh, and I've been around the block a few times. I definitely know plenty of strong riders of all cycling disciplines :thumb:.

We should definitely keep bickering about it like a bunch of craggly old hens.

i have an incessant need to defend myself.

admittedly i should have just let it go after my first post, which I don't regret.

maybe i'll do that now.

TMonk 11-25-11 11:42 AM

In other news, I think i'm gonna ride my fg again today.
I like rides in this weather:
Cold (for socal, ~50)
Constant glare from wet pavement and sun low in the sky,
cool air in the lungs.

nice.

Scrodzilla 11-25-11 11:48 AM

Only go for a ride if you can maintain an average speed of at least 20 mph. Otherwise, it's pointless. :D

Oh yeah. But I will have it paid off well before June 2012. Only using it to finish out my bike build then im off eBay for a loooong time.

homebrewk 11-25-11 12:16 PM

How much do you pay per month?

elemtee 11-25-11 12:58 PM

^ I've used it, mainly for the 3 months same as cash. not sure what it is now, but at the time, you spend $250 and would get 3 months without interest(it does accrue and applies after 3mo.) I always paid up on time to not deal with outrageous interest. I stay away from it now.

Today I raked the leaves and mowed the lawn for the last time this season. I found six live bullets in my front yard. Hooray.

Later I'll be dropping them off at a police station on my way to critical mass.

calv 11-25-11 03:13 PM

WTF happened there? lol

You could just throw them out... They're too corroded to be useful and being in possession of 6 rounds in a speed strip isn't illegal or able to be tracked to anything.

Today I went for a couple rides. At a 14.4mph average on 46/17 gearing. Not sure I like this low of a gear ratio for general riding.

yummygooey 11-25-11 03:59 PM

I ran 44x17 for awhile and it was so awesome.

Dannihilator 11-25-11 05:13 PM

Today I may have purchased a Cannondale Six13.

Won't have it until next week.

They have these promotional deals. If you spend over $175 now, you don't have to pay anything until June 2012. Literally. The catch is they give me over $1000 of credit and have a 22% intrest rate.

Pay it off before the final due date, and you're good.

EpicSchwinn 11-25-11 05:36 PM

Today it was sunny and dry (still <40 degrees out but I'll take what I can get) so I rode to starbucks for some refreshment. That place pisses me off and I don't know why I still go there every now and then. Always soooo impersonal and poor service. Not to mention paying $5 for a drink that's mostly ice sucks. I need to find a decent local coffee shop one of these days.

On a bike related note I did a little routine maintenance on my 29er. Lubed the chain, lubricated pivot points on the calipers, and dialed in the brake pads. Gotta love how easy it is to take care of a full rigid ss. I also took a few pics to see if I can't get some $wagg from Soma's photo contest. I'm no photographer but they're low on submissions so it doesn't hurt to throw your hat in. :)

Oh. I fixed my tires for my fellow obsessive compulsive people that mentioned it.

hairnet 11-25-11 05:48 PM

buzzed my hair off. Now I look like a skin head, but it's nice to feel the air flowing through the helmet vents
