Not really.
But I am interested on the ratio. Seems really small on you 930 Dannihilator. What are the 'official' specs? |
20mph average is pretty odd anywhere that stoplights exist. Unless you're not counting time at stoplights or just not stopping for them. Some people have different ideas about what "average speed means.
A lot of times if you grill people about their AVG speed you eventually get something like "I looked down at my computer a couple of times and it was often 22 or 25, so I was probably averaging 20mph ;) BFAS (Bike Forums Average Speed) could mean anything, really. |
Average speed is what my computer tells me at the end of a ride.
There are a lot of open roads around here once you leave downtown. I'm assuming the same thing of Annandale, NJ. |
Today I rode 100 miles at avg 35mph in traffic.
|
Yeah, if I get on the freeway and roll north I can get in some uninterrupted miles (I usually do take the freeway when I ride up to Olympia). I'm too much wuss to keep up 20mph for solo century, though.
There's also River road with no impediments, the 6 miles between home and that road are especially light infested, though. I would have to reset the computer once I got out there, do a 10-15 mile time trial, record average speed, then roll back home. I think of Average speed as door-door average speed so I'm usually screwed. Don't have a car so I never do the ol' roadie or gnar MTBer style drive-ride-drive type of rides either. |

5 miles from home I'm on windy, hilly country roads that I wouldn't dream of seeing stoplights on. |

Speed is so variable that it is a nearly meaningless metric.
I took cycle computers of all my rides a couple years ago and haven't looked back. I doubt I could hold 20mph solo for that many miles in the terrain around here, but I'm fit enough to be competitive in the socal cat 3 crit series, for what that's worth. |

Average speed talks? Wtf, is this slowly turning into the 41 now?
Anywho, today Jandro and another friend of mine stopped by my work to mock me as they were riding bikes. They also came with a sweet congratulatory gift for landing a job/breaking the **** out of my clavicle. Awesome friends methinks. http://www.rapha.cc/images/gallery/534-01.jpg |
I wish my friends bought me things.

Depending on my mood, reading threads and posts over there either makes me tired or frustrated. Oh, and sweet jacket. |

Every once in a while the 41 will host an entertaining thread but monitoring the subforum in wait for such a thread is kinda ruff.

Some of the cat4/5 crits I did averaged 25. Those were hell if I wasnt near the front |

I didn't say that.
And I have no problem admitting that I don't know if he's capable of that or not. What I do know is that one of my original three conditions (or perhaps a combination) does apply. |
