Yeah, we've been watching them really pack on the weight over the past few weeks. I'm pretty sure it's a mom and dad. They had babies earlier this year that we watched grow up and recently move out on their own.
I get the feeling these squirrels are smarter (and luckier) than your average squirrels to post up outside someone's house to have a stable food source. Gives them a much higher chance of survival (and rate of obesity) in terms of food. |

I think office work would definitely be more fun with more tattoos/piercings/mohawks. But seriously, there is a guy in one of my glasses with a green mohawk and I can't help but wonder what campus recruiters think when he shows up to a career fair with green spikey hair... This is me with it not spiked up. And I'm in management haha. Edit: I'm completely shaved now, by the way. |
Today i turned the wrong way onto a one way without noticing. i looked up after riding about 35 feet down the street and had cars flying by on each side of me, the weirdest part was nobody even honked at me. Couldn't believe i didn't turn head on into a car... Had to stop afterwards and make sure I wasn;t dreaming.

Today I will be sleeping in my other bed... looks like PDX isn't going to be much warmer than YEG for a few days.
I will see what I can do about warming thing sup just a little. :D |
Today I dragged myself out of bed, got ready for work, and then at the last minute realized I feel like **** and called in sick. Back in my PJs on the couch, wishing I could breathe.

My wife said the same exact thing I said when she saw the pic, that they're huge and ready for winter.

Tattoos are kewl but I have no idea what I would get a tattoo of if I ever got a tattoo. Plus, I can only get half sleeve 'coz professionalism in my future industry.
Bunch of people in my engineering office with tats, and they show them off too. I guess it depends where you are....Plus we have a VERY casual dress code |

Today we have a light dusting of snow. Just enough that I've ridden like this all day without feeling guilty about tires :D

I know a high school art teacher that shows off some of her ink when in her work clothes.

Today I found out that my rear hub has a goofy splined cog, and being fixed/free, I can't mount my DA cog+lockring. I'm not going to run a suicide hub. I was pretty irate when I first figured out it wasn't going to work, mainly because of how OCD I am about aligning the rear wheel and how long it takes me to put it back on. This process takes me forever, along with any kind of adjustment I do on my bike. So now it looks like my options for changing gearing are: a. Buy another formula splined cog b. Buy new chainring/crankset c. Buy a new hub/wheel |
Assuming the Formula spline pattern is like a Shimano freehub spline pattern, Surly makes freehub cogs too. Oooh, and Chris King's got stainless freehub cogs if you wanna spend more

Me want Omniums. ( : (

Today picked up the wheels and put in a street session, soooo much stiffer setup than the dtswisscheese rims I used to use.

They're super smart and have the best luxury squirrel penthouse around. We always make jokes about how cliche they are, living in a hole in a tree like cartoon squirrels. That same pair has lived there for nearly three years now so they're doing something right. Early this morning I watched them taking turns running down to the ground and coming back up with mouthfuls of leaves to insulate their nest.
My wife was at school once, and she was sitting on a bench outside eating a snack. A squirrel came up on the bench, right up to her leg, put his (or her) hand out and touched her leg, then scampered off. A lady who was walking by was stunned and said something like "I have never seen that before". |

There goes that idea. I've seen some BMX stuff with similar splines, stuff probably doesn't match, though. Proprietary junk is junk.

That's a cool story (I'm saying this without a hint of sarcasm). I wonder if the other neighborhood squirrels are waiting for that spot to open up. It's like prime real estate I bet, and they're all jealous of whoever is shacked up there.
I've noticed that every now and again, other squirrels do try to get into their house - there a particular blonde squirrel and a pair of little red squirrels that are particularly persistent - and they always end up getting their asses handed to them and chased off.

That rules. I love when that stuff happens. Just the other day, I had the male squirrel sitting next to me on my front stoop eating Brazil nuts from my hand when the mailman walked up and was blown away by how calm the little guy was.
