Speaking of bags, my Rambler's been amazing. Until I searched for them a week into owning the bag, I didn't even know it had rails.

Nothing but love for Mission Workshop. Maybe someday I'll get to try out a mess by chrome.

kind of ironic huh?

I always found that the more money I had, the more thrifty I became.
When I was in college, I knew it was only a matter of time before I was completely broke and hitting up the credit card, just waiting for that next loan to come in. Money was transitory.

Now that I am working a real job and seeing some money, I want my assets to appreciate. I certainly spend less now (as a percentage of my income) than I did just 18 months ago.

In my case, I just use the credit card to buy stuff online or around town but pay it off at each statement. It's just when all the purchases on credit hit my own money I realize how the little stuff adds up. I generally work my butt off in the summer so I can focus on school during the rest of the year instead of balancing jobs so the whole school year is a bit of a budgeting exercise. Admittedly I probably could've budgeted better the first half of the year (note the new frame and fork :P) but over break I'm going to get some hours in the detail bay to re-up my cash flow.

Today I payed off the credit card. And just like that my desire to browse eBay is completely gone.

Grats! Living debt free is the only way to live imho. The only debt I have is my mortgage. But I don't see many alternatives there.

yeah, that's usually when my big bike purchases were made too.

Nice and sunny, so I rode about 30 miles. Water bottle froze -- good thing I didn't get too thirsty.

I sanded fourteen tables down that had been finished about twenty years ago, only to get asked to stain them the same color they were before. Lame. Also, I had an amazing lunch that was mostly free because the chef found out we were all restaurant people and sent out tons of extra courses. After work I went downtown, had a drink with a friend, and picked up my new Sambas. Came home, made pizza for dinner, talked to a friend that just relapsed on heroin and says he's cleaned up again and is coming up to visit me next week, then I did some reading. It's been a pretty ok day.

2 hours at fencing practice, then home to succumb to the desire for the Leader 722 (green!). will be a frame swap w/ the stock parts on my '11 Sputnik that i let my LBS talk me into getting in too large a frame. *sigh*

luckily we have a local charity that takes parts and teaches underprivileged kids to how to build bikes.

Today I realized my Kilo has a 3/32" chain. Time to cancel a chainwhip order return a cog.

On the plus side, I'm happy that I'll be using the same tools on my FG as my road bike.

My dad does some work for MIT as an interviewer, and today someone emailed with an interview request. They spelled "you," "u." That's not getting you into MIT dude.

I would send a recommendation to that person's high school to send him all the way back to 1st grade.

Got a call from the shop installing my forks saying the bottom needs to be faced. That since chroming them they'll no longer fit without risking a loose headset. He doesn't even have a facing tool so he's not trying to make a buck

Two minutes (or less) with a file takes care of that problem.

He made me all paranoid about "if i get it uneven". Is it really that simple?

Scrodzilla 12-07-11 12:59 PM

Yes. Another easy solution is to heat up the crown race - causing it to expand slightly - before installing it.
