Today I had a really good street session, tomorrow DJ session.

Jaytron 12-17-11 02:10 AM

Today I got real drunk at a company party. Whiskey was flowing like water, it was like a dream.

The view from the boat:

If anyone has any police experience or knows an officer, maybe you can fill me in here on what happened tonight:

I leave my wife's work parking lot after picking her up and her bike. We drive past one four way stop and reach another one. As I come to a stop, I see a cop car behind me in the rearview mirror. I also see a car coming from my right coming to a complete stop, to make a right turn. I say to my wife (talking about the car that's turning): "Yeah, you'd better stop completely cuz there's a cop car behind me."

I come to a complete stop (because there's a cop car behind me) and as I roll through the intersection, the cop hits his lights and sirens and pulls me over. Our conversation goes something like this:

Cop: You know what you did back there, right?
Me, being truly unaware: "Uhh..no."
Cop: You ran that stop sign.
Me, after my jaws drop and wife's jaws too: What? Wait, what? We came to a complete stop. I saw you behind me in the mirror, why would I run that stop sign?
Cop: I wasn't behind you, I saw you pass that intersection and run the stop sign, then I turned right and pulled you over.

We proceed to argue this back and forth, of course I'm using a polite voice and saying sir because I don't want a ticket, even if I did nothing wrong. He asks for license and registration and as me and my wife are looking for the reg. he asks us why we're here, where my wife works, what she does, what I do, then he hands me back my license and says "Don't run stop signs, and don't think cops are behind you. Have a good night."

So basically me and my wife deduced that they were "fishing" or looking for something wrong when there really wasn't any problem. I would bet everything I own that 1. the cop was behind me before that intersection and 2. I came to a complete stop.

I'm gonna message a cop buddy, but can anyone shed some light on this? Similar experiences?

Totally fishin' Biggly. That's the main reason we got the all ages bike helmet law in my town, so the pigs could generate more "contacts".

hamfoh 12-17-11 08:03 AM

got tired of waiting for bonktown to email me back so found their # online and called. got some things I wanted switched around done for me and the shoes I wanted added at the price I wanted (had "held" the "pro road" shoe just incase that wasn't possible). Was able to remember the prices via gearscan.com

guy told me they don't do this, so don't ask for it again, but he was super nice and every thing went better than expected. incoming clipless ham

was it a crime/drug area? what time of day?

the "stop sign" thing is an easy way to make a contact to look for: people buying drugs from their cars, coming from happy hour (esp. on Friday), or just lights/inspection/tires/seatbelt.......

standard w/ the locals here is to let you roll on for about four blocks so you might question your memory. who thinks about what they did four stop signs ago?

i'm sure you -did- stop, but it really doesn't matter. he can write the ticket and even if you decide to show up to traffic court he won't and you have to hope the judge will see it your way.

another situation that occurred near me was that the mayor told the police: "city's broke. if you want a retirement fund, write some tickets." guess what happened...

Yesterday I worked, drank, karaoked, and had an amazing dinner.

Today it snowed so I'm gonna go for a snowy ride. Hell yeah.

solipsist716 12-17-11 02:55 PM

Yesterday: 30 cent wings, beer all day
Today: see above (the bar I work at has the best specials, ever.) Also, I need a good recipe for the potluck-type work party tomorrow to pass. Any suggestions dudez?
Tomorrow: Work party. Basically doing what we do every night at work, but at my bosses house with tons of food instead - get drunk.

My liver is gonna hate me on Monday.

Today, while tightening a cog, I snapped the bolt that attaches the chain to the chain whip's handle. What's the best way to reattach the chain? Another bolt, a rivet from the chain, or something else?

If it's a Park Tool chainwhip, you can contact them and they will send you a replacement bolt. Those little bolts suck though. After breaking about 20 of them, I finally just attached the chain using a typical KMC master link and it hasn't broken since.

20 times, wow. Do you have any hand left? I took a chunk of skin out of mine somehow.

And, it's a Park Tool. I'll try your master link suggestion. Thanks!

Today I looked at the spreadsheet I created listing everything bike related that I've bought and found out I spent close to $3k.

Where the hell did I get that money? haha.

Seriously, it got to the point where I broke a bolt every time I used the damn thing and each time, lost some skin on my fingers (and once dislocated my pinky). It's a bad design because if you accidentally twist the chainwhip even the slightest bit while using it, the bolt snaps. I'm surprised Park hasn't corrected the issue by now.

A master link meant to hold up just like any other chain link would and is much stronger than a little bolt so it makes a world of difference.

Today I did a little moving and cleaning. Broke out the Western Flyer for a 3-mile jaunt old school style.

About 9:15pm, downtown L.A. My wife works at a mortuary as a closing secretary, and it's right across the street, literally, from a police personnel building. That's why I'm stupid careful around that area, because I see plenty of cops cruising around so I don't play with stop signs there. Hell, I don't play with stop signs anywhere since I see so many people get pulled over.

I buy what you are saying, because he WAS behind me and I DID stop completely. Who wouldn't if you saw a cop behind you? What bothered me was how the guy straight up lied to my face that he wasn't behind me and that I didn't stop completely.

I hear you on that last part too. That's why some people get tickets for going 75 on the freeway at times, when the norm in SoCal is like 80.

Tonight, got drunk at a friends fun party. Also got some intel that the chick i'm into is crazy. Don't know if I should believe that though. My friend giving the advice doesn't have the best track record, yet he does know the girl I like the best.
