Missed out on DA 7400 cranks at the co-op. Some woman was taking the 7400 group off her bike and installing 7800. Guy swoops in and gets them for $40 with the BB. FFFFFUUUUUUU
whatever, they were only 170mm. I can get 177.5mm 7700 cranks, but Octalink... |
today i accidentally overhauled my bike... i started by installing my new headset, figured the bike was close enough to completely dismantled, so i did the rest... smooth like butter... geared down while i had the rear cog off, from 52x15 to 52x16, the added rotational weight of tire liners and thorn resistant tubes i had recently installed (i am ****ing sick of flats man) caused a drastic difference in acceleration... new ratio seems about the same as before...might even gear down more, need to work on spinning... also installed new trim in my bathroom... overall a good day...

...just decided I need to map out a moonlight ride for tomorrow night. It's so perfect out right now but I don't like the idea of putting in lots of miles on a weekend night. Too many bar/party patrons gonna be hitting the road.
Fingers crossed for more perfect weather tomorrow night. |

No need for it though. |

No need for it though. Another day of two workouts, I'm proud of myself. Trying to shed some holiday weight. Went for an easy run with my wife and somehow hurt my ankle/foot in the process. I honestly haven't run in months since I got into biking, which led to a discussion with my wife about which muscles are utilized and how. I was a big basketball guy before bikes, and I haven't played in months now. Watched the Giants dominate Atlanta, then caught most of Denver vs. Pitt. I missed the TD in OT by seconds because I went out to dinner at a sushi place with my friends. Rode to meet my wife, rode back, dinner and now I'll probably have a beer while reading up on a Star Wars novel. |

well a series of unfortunate errors on my part led to me losing some of my "$800 paint job on my cheap aluminum frame"
I went for my first clipless ride, I felt like a natural getting in and out. It was great. the power transfer was awesome and I definitely see myself using them for 10+ mile rides (and the way my mavic shoes and helmet kept things cool and comfortable was awesome). The only thing I'm having an issue with is the wiggle that SPD clips let me do. So when I'm stopping (brakeless) it's very "slippery" feeling Anyway to the bad news. A few miles in I notice some play in my chain, I thought I felt it earlier but wasn't sure since I'm riding on a totally new style. I pull over and look, yep, play, not so bad I should immediately go home, but enough to bother me and make me change the 'style' of my ride. So I go to roll my bike and I notice the wheel is rubbing and I'm like ffffFFUUUUUU - because I then remembered I tossed on the rear wheel quickly after changing cogs and it was just a bit more than hand tightened (but too tight to loosen by hand). I never leave without my 15mm normally but I did today. So it was push it home or ride it home. I was about 3 miles away so I said **** it, I'll ride it cautiously, on account of being clipless I really didn't want to tip toe all the way home. Also I live on the second story, so I carry my bike to the road, I would've noticed rubbing earlier if I rolled my bike out of my home like most people do I bet. And I was using new headphones for the first time today that cancelled basically all outside noise (dangerous and dumb I know) but I couldn't find my normal headphones. So I was on a new wheelset 650 or so grams lighter than my previous, on 25s instead of 28s and clipless, so I knew the ride felt different but because everything was so different just purely riding and a 'slight' rub didn't come into my thinking quickly because I was so focused on my new setup. the new headphones, the new shoes and the lack of tools ended up in me realizing that rushing out the door to ride is a bad idea and I feel like a jackass. A series of very small errors all added up to cutting ride incredibly short and doing some dirty work TL;DR - my wheel wasn't tight enough, rubbed my chainstays all the way home |
The very definition of "pushing your luck".
That sucks, but like you said, a series of errors on your part. At least its on the inner chain stays. You could probably touch that up with paint or nail polish if you want to. |
Yeah I'm not worry about scratches or scuffs like that for myself, I'm just thinking of 2013 when I want to sell it and LOWs waiting line isn't 8 months :p
|
Today I received some free stuff from my friend's old build and from my dad for a budget bike I plan on putting together.
-Used DP-18's to Formula hubs. I plan on stripping the paint off and polishing them out since they chipped and scratched like crazy. -generic cog (at least its not a stamped one) -lockring -generic brake lever -Tektro R720 front brake caliper -risers -KMC Z410NP chain -All-City standard pedals -All-City plastic clips -All-City double straps Schweet. |
Today I put the front brake on my bike, but I still couldn't ride since I didn't have a rear wheel. I decided to visit a friend I hadn't seen in a while and he let me borrow a spare rear wheel he wasn't using :D

Whew. I thought your story was going to involve a crash hamfoh. Chainstay rub = character!
Today I, well actually yesterday I found out that Premium Rush isn't coming out 'til August! Uggh. |
Today I started classes again, after working all night. Running on water. Working nights full time and having school full time is going to kill me.

It can be done. Just start sleeping less every night and take midday naps. I had a dedicated nap-zone in the library last semester for just this purpose.
|
I worked graveyard at a gas station while in college. Took naps and/or did homework at work.
|
Today I contemplated selling my bikes.
I'm tired of breaking bones and being able to do nothing. |
What happened?
