Could it be that you bolt the chainring on to the outside of omnium's spider but the inside of the s300's? But with all else being equal, then wouldn't the chainlines be different?

Scrodzilla 03-08-12 07:13 AM

sigh.

markaitch 03-08-12 07:45 AM

actually...dddavid is right in that any pic of omnumnums shows the ring on the outside while all pics of s300s (with 1 ring) have it on the inside. if it was my problem i would consider putting the ring on the outside myself but for the fact it will throw the chainline off so much.

ddeadserious...unfortunately for you, your problem demonstrates one of the potential problems with using road cranks for ss/fg.

fyi...velosolo rings do come 3/32. unless he wants to use this as a reason to get nicer cranks...

Scrod, why don't you order one & exchange with the poor guy?

Yes, dddavid is "right" but they're two different cranksets with two very different designs. Looking at any picture will show you the ring can't be placed on the outside of S300s, just as it can't be run on the inside of Omniums.

He's already arranged to send it back for a refund. Jeez.

markaitch 03-08-12 08:43 AM

^^^ooops...you are absolutely correct that ddeadserious could not have put his ring on the outside, i forgot there is a single ring specific s300

should have known you would take care of him so all comments on how to solve his problem are moot

keep up the good work...

(i do, however, wish you would carry 130 velosolo rings in 3/32)

Scrodzilla 03-08-12 08:47 AM

We plan on it but VeloSolo makes them in small batches and haven't restocked them yet.

adriano 03-08-12 08:55 AM

id have to make an order if you have their bolt on cogs.

ddeadserious 03-08-12 09:06 AM

 It's all good guys, Scrod and I had already established there wasn't a solution, I was just bumming about it. I've always hated the stock S300 chainring. Appreciate the brainstorming though.

Today I was running late and my front tire just conveniently happened to be flat. I was just about to grab my roadie off the rack when I had the random idea of taking my wife's via condotti instead; after all it was on the bottom rack.
Aside from the porteur bars hitting my calf on turns, feeling a bit cramped with my wife's fit, and the women's brooks, the ride to and from work awesome; the joys a more upright riding position can do.
And did I mention how awesome skidding is with townie bars?

exactly how I felt about riding with my upside down rb021

hamfoh 03-09-12 07:41 AM

today I saw this video and felt it was pretty misleading :p
and yesterday my rear knog light snapped at the stress point. can you buy just the 'case' for the lights anywhere? the light is still fine

Scrodzilla 03-09-12 07:47 AM

Misleading how?

I'm pretty sure you can contact Knog and they will replace it.

email shop@knog.com.au

hamfoh 03-09-12 09:09 AM

yeah they're already replacing the front light for me that stopped turning on so I sent the same guy an emailing asking to throw in a case.

I should've said 'semi' misleading to me, but now that I watch it again, maybe it was my pre coffee snarkiness. The video gave me a 'made by whitey in usa' vibe, but upon further inspection, they're pretty good about not showing any faces.

love mine fwiw too, probably ordering another pair once retro-gression stocks them / slips me coupons under the table.

I had a great conversation with the Thomson guys at NAHBS. I was asking them about a X2 that was drilled for cable stop on a cross bike at the show. The guys said that the top was the worst place to do that. He told me to drill the side of the stem (neutral plane) if I was to do it. He went on to tell me that they could completely remove most of the material on the side of the stem and it would be just as strong but no one would ride it. they actually did the fatigue test on it and it performed just as well as a stock stem. Craziness.

jdgesus 03-09-12 02:17 PM

today my hair hurts

Scrodzilla 03-09-12 02:35 PM

I hate when that happens. I once kept my dreads tied back for three days straight and when I undid them, I was in agony for an entire day.

TMonk 03-09-12 02:51 PM

i used to tell ppls that I had to wash my hair as an excuse for why I couldn't go out.

that was when I had a buzz cut.

it was usually because I wanted to ride early the next morning like a boss

nuhtowel 03-09-12 06:14 PM

Today I went to my LBS... the owner was machining some tooling in the basement. Harry Havnoonian is making bikes again! and I want one...

Leukybear 03-09-12 07:29 PM

Today I fed my wife a toothpaste oreo. She usually doesn't eat them but I knew this flavor was a once in a life time chance, the 100 year celebration birthday cake flavour. The trick was to only partially replace the creme with toothpaste, that way they get to taste the cookie with their palette and then come tot he shocking realization. I wish I recorded her gag reflex. Yes, revenge is sweet. It was also nice knowing you guys.

I had a girl give me that line once. She was bitter over someone mentioning another girl in front of her. Still friends. Ended up getting some boob. Cool story.

Anyways, today I sat on my lousy, unemployed ass and watched the entire first season of Jersey Shore on Netflix while deciding whether or not I wanted to ride. Life sucks.

Drummerboy1975 - Tell people it's a new dual sport bicycle that was just released.

Dannihilator 03-09-12 09:23 PM

Today brought another ride on the mtb and did more work installing hardwood floor.
