Today I finally got a road ride in, felt so good.

hamfoh 06-22-11 07:40 PM

put pepper risers on my soma today, rode around town, felt like a hipster / got an estimate on my truck, $1000. considering getting rid of it all together.

Thanks. No, nats are definitely out this year because of this, but next year will be fine. I haven't been training (weights, track, intervals etc.) at all since February and wouldn't be able to train hard right up to nats, which are just a month away. I'm not interested in going unless I'm competitive, which I wouldn't be. Some guys like to just show up and ride, but that's not acceptable with me. I wish you the best and say hi to Fran and Bill for me.

Thanks, man. And will do. I'll see you next year.

Today I bought a Bianchi for $50

I'm going to fix it up as a replacement for my sister's old mtb that got stolen.

How 'bout that neon pink bottle cage, ladies?

Today I am taking delivery of my '85 Pro Miyata frameset. Hooray!

Today I did 45 miles from Jersey through Manhattan and back. I stopped at the Staten Island Ferry and was approached by a couple from Denmark. The guy saw my bike and asked me about where to find fixed gear specific shops in the city. We chatted for about 10-15 minutes about what else to look at besides bikes then i was on my way. On the way home i was caught in a crazy rain storm on the GWB and was soaked all the way home. Good times!

Bro lives in NYC. I've more or less walked across most of Manhattan in the 3 times I've been there, but I would like to bring my bike sometime to further explore the city and its surroundings.

do it, I can't imagine travelling without my bike. Not having my bike in a new city would be like having sex with a blindfold on. "yeah cool..I'm here...but whats here? It feels hairy...is this a guy? Man...last time I wear a blindfold."

yeah man its great. i usually only ride the west side but today i wanted to try the bike path on the east side, and man was it crappy! some parts were ok but you'll be riding then all of a sudden you will hit a dead end! then i had to turn around, get on the streets (York Ave. is the worst!) and figure out how to get back on the path. after a while i gave up and headed crosstown to get back on the greenway.

oh i forgot to add, at mile 44 a squirrel decided to jump under my front wheel! i didnt wreck and when i looked back he ran back up a tree! crazy!

What'd you polish them with?

I used Rolite Aluminum polish. The trick is to get it as smooth as possible. I started off with 180 grit, then, 240,400,600.... all the way to 2500grit. You can't half ass or it'll show on the finished product. I wasted a lot of polish this way

First spoke card of the evening.

One more to come, lets hope my constitution doesn't fail me now. These are going to be printed and sold for fundraising for the victims of the accident.

cc700 06-23-11 10:05 PM

learned that ANOTHER of my friends is in the ER after an accident on his bike. waiting on a text to find out which hospital...

Sherblock 06-23-11 10:16 PM

Was it car related? Seems like I'm hearing about them more and more now :(

Best wishes to your friend for a quick recovery!

a couple more possible spoke cards. Still looking for an image for the = sign. I want to use some bikers flying into the air although I may end up having to use a jollyroger or some other sign.

update: my friend's fine, just a hurt face with four stitches in it. he was likely concussed because he was unconscious for about seven minutes after he hit the ground. i think a pothole bent his fork and his wheel stopped.

moral of the story: be careful and always always wear your helmet. if he wasn't wearing his helmet he likely would have drain bramage was the unprofessional opinion i heard.

bought a Pinarello, stripped a stack bolt on my fixie, set up my Cateye computer, one of my Gatorskins blew overnight after 2 weeks of owning them. Bead completely separated from the tire. Continental was e-mailed two days ago, no response yet. Calling them today.

Here's another one for you. I was intentionally hit by some grumpy old man in his Acura MDX yesterday while waiting for the light to turn green. I turn around and tell him not to move. As soon as I pull my phone out, he bolts. I had to chase him 4 blocks to get his plate number.
So I tell my story to an officer at the police dept and he turns me away because I wasn't injured and he said it wasn't his district. wtf?! i had to go to another police station to file a report. some cops man, i just don't know..

jdgesus 06-24-11 04:06 PM

Dannihilator 06-24-11 09:29 PM

Today I lead a very soggy 35 mile group road ride. Being the only fixed rider of the bunch, I made sure to make the geared riders suffer.

EpicSchwinn 06-24-11 11:32 PM

Today I finished the $50 Bianchi. It only took less than $40 in parts and it rides like new. Take that, bike co-op that said I couldn't get anything rideable for $100.

frantik 06-25-11 02:16 AM

today/tonight i'm building up a "ghetto" single speed MTB right now out of an old specialized hardrock.. actually tearing down would be a better word lol. shifting was rough in the front and not even working in the back so i was like, ok SS time.

Stripped off the shifters and front derailleur, using the rear D for the chain tensioner. if the bike didn't have sugino biopace rip off chainrings i might be able to SS it proper w/o a tensioner but the rings make the tension vary too much.

bought the bike for $35, dont want to spend a dime on it and gonna try to flip it as a ghetto single speed for 80ish..we will see what the market is like for them

Nice job. Sorry about your sisters bike, I'm glad you found something new.

Today I:

1. Slept in

2. Mowed the yard

3. Built up the new rear wheel for my Serotta while waiting for the mail (expecting a package that I have to sign for, the mail came but the package didn't :()

4. Warmed up on the rollers for about ten minutes, then rode to the hospital and back: 16.5 miles, 65 minutes, managed to do all of the hills sitting down @ 50+ rpm except for the one steep hill that I couldn't ride up a month ago - now I can ride it standing up - I must be getting stronger :)

5. Laundry

6. TBD
