That's really cool. Part of the cast of Firefly is having a reunion there tomorrow.

Today I learned that Clif Bar recently gave every one of their employees a free custom bike:

Way nicer than the bikes Ikea gave to their employees, understandably so.

Scrodzilla 07-12-12 09:34 PM

Today I also learned that people sell gift cards for MORE THAN THEY ARE WORTH on eBay and people actually buy them. What the hell??? Why the **** would anyone ever buy a $50 iTunes gift card for $55?

Dannihilator 07-12-12 09:36 PM

Because ebay will take $5 of that in processing fees.

Scrodzilla 07-12-12 09:39 PM

But why not just spend your $50 (or however much) on iTunes or the store itself? That's like buying a $5 bill for six bucks.

I really can't stand how stupid people have become.

Dannihilator 07-12-12 09:40 PM

Because people are dumb.

We haven't become more stupid, it's just that in modern day times the dumb ones reach adulthood.

I know. They're already lined up.

Sixty Fiver 07-12-12 10:49 PM

Today I picked up some new fishing tackle, some cold Pilsner, and went thrift shopping and came home with some nice cycling jerseys, a new Columbia Omni liner for my shell, a merino sweater, and some Doc Marten boots that are in extremely good shape.

I wanna go so bad. I'm a huge Firefly nerd. I'm actually planning on getting "I aim to misbehave" tattooed somewhere.

Same here, such a great show. I'm glad science channel will air the reunion this fall.

finished my bike project (used a spare white chain I had lying around, will probably replace it soon)

Today I also decided that I am giong to do the tough mudder on Saturday even thought I have to work a midnight shift before, so I will be getting out of work at 7am and driving 3+ hours to Vermont to Run 10 miles up hill then back home so I can go to work... I am stupid.

hamfoh 07-13-12 12:45 AM

Big Block complete came in today. I've had 3 complete bikes shipped to me before and all city's strategy is definitely the worst. Bars got scratched, gash in headset cups, crank arm tucked in spokes, both wheels as badly out of true as I've ever seen on a new set. Seatpost, stem and bars are very meh, but the price is still pretty good if the frame is as good as advertised. think it will look pretty good with a few adjustments. It's hard to get in the mindset that this is my "cheap" bike and make it nice. Got a used Thomson combo for it though, and a used 49t ring, keeping everything else for now

jimmytango 07-13-12 02:05 AM

Today I almost contacted a seller on Craigslist before I realized that it was the same set of bullhorns and 16t cog I just pulled off of my bike, and that the seller is likely LessonLearned.

Also, I've been dieting since Saturday and I've gained five pounds. What the ****?

People still say ******? Dude...

LessonLearned 07-13-12 07:36 AM

Today I had a dream that I was pedaling my bike backwards, in circles. Not sure what that means (other than maybe it means I should be in the upcoming FGFS forum? lol)

misskaz 07-13-12 08:23 AM

Today I rode to work on my new saddle. Not sure if I like it. I think it might be a smidge too narrow. But I should be able to use it on my CX build. I hate the effort it takes to find the elusive perfect saddle!

This afternoon I am going to Pitchfork and I'm so excited. Japandroids! Woo! I hope the bike parking isn't a **** show. Last year they had one bike parking lot and I heard it filled up, this year they have two.

LessonLearned 07-13-12 08:42 AM

Yeah Pitchfork = scary amounts of bikes. The last time I went was a couple years ago and there was just nowhere to put your bike within blocks of Union Park. I heard they have valets but I don't know, my bike may be a piece of crap, but I love it just the same and wouldn't be comfortable handing it over to anyone. Heh, scam of the decade - dress up like a bike valet and load up truck$ with bike$. "Oh hello sir, nice Bianchi, we'll take REAL good care of it..."

hamfoh 07-13-12 08:45 AM

who knew Beverly, MA was just an aggressive place to live

It's not just any random people doing the bike parking.

Pitchfork and The Chicago Readerhave teamed up since 2009 to provide free, secure bicycle parking, as well as water, air and chain lube for tires, and on site mechanical assistance for festival attendees. This year, car sharing company Zipcar, Chicago bicycle social networking site The Chainlink, and local bike shop The Bike Lane will join the Chicago Reader Biker Village to enhance cyclists' experiences.
To accommodate as many cyclists as possible, there are two lots this year, providing over 26,000 square feet of space: One located in the Cobra Lounge parking lot at the corner of Ashland and Walnut, just northwest of the festival grounds, and a larger lot located at Madison and Ashland, just southwest of the festival grounds. We encourage you to take advantage of this feature of the event.

ETA: Oh, just talked to a friend who has gone every year, and he said it's still self-service bike parking, not bike valet. You bring your own lock and stuff, they just patrol it.

LessonLearned 07-13-12 09:03 AM

Oh cool.

The Bike Lane FTW. back to back years voted best bike shop by Chicago Reader. Oh and they are less than a block from my crib, so that's nice.

They do lots of cool custom builds too.

thats a short time to really count for anything. It could simply be water weight or a large turd

prooftheory 07-13-12 09:17 AM

Today I ate it on my ride before work. Somebody asked me what the road rash was and I said "blood". They asked me if it was mine and I said, "Some of it".

Doohickie 07-13-12 09:22 AM

Today I completed the ride I started last night (left the house around 10 pm, ran into some friends, hung out, had a beer, got home at 1 am). 22 miles on the fixed gear, took the hilly way home and got some good climbing in.

http://www.blipfoto.com/uploads/5850....57642234.jpeg

This was taken on the outbound leg. The red light at the back of my bike is my blinky; the one at the front is a cop car off in the distance that had pulled someone over.
