And the BB-saddle is way off at 82.5cm but fitment says 89-91cm? I must have measured something wrong...

Better just have someone help me and do this over. No sense in analyzing the figures since they're probably wrong.

10-4 good buddies. I'll holler back once I get'er done right.

You might want to stick with it if you just started riding, you'll get used to it and start to become more flexible. I definitely wouldn't spring for a nice stem until you get settled into riding.

Made a few adjustments...
Saddle forward, 107deg/90mm stem
Feels different but not sure if better or worse yet. Horns are tilted up a bit more to compensate, might tone those down just a hair.

When I see this bike, it makes me think that you must be proportional similar to

http://home.comcast.net/~snarkolepsy/4fair08.jpg

I think you need a longer stem or something.

have you ever tried flipping that stem and leveling out the bars? i had my stem/bars set the same way when i first set up my bike and i thought it was "comfy"

leveled everything out and its like my eyes were opened, more aero positioning and sprint level up, generally more comfortable overall. i cant imagine riding my bike the way i had it first set up anymore

flipping the stem so its leveled out gives you some more reach too which seems like what you need

Rootzilla 07-31-12 04:48 PM

It does in the wintertime. I think -18 degrees fahrenheit was the coldest I cycled last winter. This week its been around 70-75 deg fahrenheit though.

solipsist716 07-31-12 05:07 PM

Jesus. Reminds me of Buffalo. As low as the single digits in the Winter (not including windchill usually) and it's been in the 80's and 90's all Summer.

today i'm a little wobbly. leader for our Monday night town ride took us up a road that accesses the top of a local ski hill. about .25mi of 25% grade. made it 3/4 of the way up running 46:16 on the 722ts. i was the only one w/o gears and still made it the farthest. yay, old guy! darn 20-something whippersnappers.

Rule #5, i didn't whine, but we had a heck of a "no face" boxing match outside the pub afterward.

between that, and the normal hill climbs on my commute, i'm like a sailor getting his land legs back....

Today I did some dirt jumping and did not enjoy it.

Today my gatorskin order came from amazon and they packed it in a box the size of a wide filing cabinet literally. Picked it up and knew something was wrong with the weight of the box being unusually heavy even for a pair of wire beads. Opened it up and it was buy one get one free packing error in my favor. Amazon prime is really paying for itself in shipping alone not to mention the freebies.

any bike part short of maybe the highest quality wheelset or frameset is going to be a drop in the well if you're buying a car.
well, if you're buying a reasonably good car.
i would get a zen ring.

With this latest stem/setup, I have more weight on my wrists/bars than I would prefer. My arms are weak, which is likely the problem. Need to HTFU.

It works, and it's better to have the longer/less-angled stem because it puts the weight over the front hub much more efficiently than the stubby/tall stem
It's also better to have the seat further forward, gives me better leverage/angle to push the pedals down.

In short, this 107deg/90mm stem seems like the "correct approach" but I need to figure out how to be okay with the weight on my wrists/hands/bars. My previous setup was comfortable for me because most of the weight was on the saddle/legs.

I'll ride it this way for a week or two and see how it goes. It does seem more "correct", if that makes sense.

Seat further forward also puts more weight to your arms/hands. You should be able to lift your hands of the bar and maintain your position without too much strain.
