Last night, I figured out a good way to toe-in the brake shoes on the Exage canti's on my FG. No squeal and much better braking on my commute this morning! :thumb:

Thanks so much, guys!

Today, my cable and internet are getting hooked up at the new place. Problem? When they remodeled they buried the cable line somewhere in one of the walls. Wonderful.

It was good.

Dang, I need a map jersey. The race logos are kinda meh, but the map rules.

It's so deliciously 90's. I'm a cartographer (I have the 3/4 sleeve map of the world tattoo to prove it!) and the one-day classics races are my favorite cycling events so this jersey is basically everything I love in lycra form.

Haha, you can have it! I much prefer a clear, crisp morning to a wet and foggy one with limited visibility ;) At least I PRed that climb (and then did repeats up it somewhat slower :p)

Little late, but I wasn't around the computer on the 28th, so here's how it would of gone;

Today I woke up in a Jacksonville Super8 motel with about 9 other riders from my city, ate a gnarly pre-race breakfast and spent the next few hours meditating and tuning up our bikes. We arrived at a pretty nice park right by the river and registered, the total registered being 71. It was a 12 checkpoint ride, not sure about how many miles as my Strava has a habit of turning off mid-ride. Pretty great elevation changes, smooth roads, friendly folks, and great weather. Climbed two relatively large bridges during the race, loved it. Finished 15th overall and afterwards there was a movie screening of "Fixation," a pretty impressive documentary of this whole fixed gear thing from the perspective of many different riders.

p.s. what are you sciencing?

misskaz 07-30-12 02:51 PM

Scrod, I must know how you make that pepper-egg-bacon breakfast delicious thing. Do you par-cook or fully cook the bacon first? The pepper? I'm so intrigued.

I scienced today too, tested 3 more in vivo protein interactions in my beloved army of petunias.

I cooked the pepper ring on a buttered pan for a few minuets over very low heat, then put a slice of tomato at the bottom with a slice of bacon coiled around it - which was cooked but not crispy - and let them hang out for a few more minutes before cracking the egg into the pepper ring and covering the pan, basically letting the moisture from the tomato "poach" it.

Be careful not to have the heat too high or the tomato will burn, the egg won't cook and you'll have a mess on your hands.

nuhtowel 07-30-12 03:25 PM

you should serve breakfast at your shop in the morning

Today I got my new FSA Orbit-X headset installed by LBS. Smooth. Solid. :thumb:

Today I returned from vacation and put in 40 miles.

That sounds awesome. I will try it soon.

Today I put in a solid 41 miles. Got a new flat-ground speed record. Strava said 33.7 mph while carrying a MW Vandal full of interview clothes and u-lock. Not bad.

I may be getting a job as a builder at the Northbrook (north suburb) Performance Bike. Not great, but better than nothing, and not a kitchen. Supplement it with foraging, and I'll be set. I figured out money based on the offer and my foraging in the past. If I haven't ****ed it up too much, I'll be making as much as I did at my old job, working 40-50 hours a week, and getting awesome discounts on bike stuff, plus I'll get to ride through the Chicago Botanic Gardens whenever I work at Performance. Also, the shop is near the county line, and cigarettes are significantly cheaper up there.

Between cheap smokes (until I quit), cheap bike stuff, a thirty mile round-trip commute at one job and a bunch of hiking at the other, plus a somewhat normal schedule, I think this might be pretty ok.
