Just need bars, levers, cables/housing, and bar tape and I'm done with the beater.

Picking up some tektro levers tomorrow. I have to order some origin 8 tiki bars. I'm gonna use some celeste bar tape cause I can.

Austin is cool but then you're surrounded by Texas :P

Today I rode for the first time in a month thanks to an operation to remove some hemorrhoids - basically they cut the things off then leave the wounds open to heal. Uncomfortable at times. No riding either. Rode to work today though (13 km). No complaints from my rear end but I felt like I'd been stuffed in a bag and beaten with a club. The ride was good though :D

Shoveling snow aint that bad. I made around $300 shoveling for the housing company that keeps up the project houses. But 15 hours shoveling 3 feet of snow is pretty terrible. especially the second day. I would take super hot days over cold and snowy winters anytime. All I wanna do though is ride my bike, but I feel like a zombie I am so sore. And as of yesterday only around a quarter of the city was plowed. And the city only has 3 working city plows left. Providence really blew it this time

Last night I ordered my first pair of road shoes. I am excite. Nashbar had a promotional deal for their house-brand Pro road shoe, an extra 20% off. So I got an $80 pair of shoes for $78 shipped. Hell yea.

Truth. I always forget about the one side of my house because I never go that way, there's no access from the house or backyard. Welp, went downstairs to do laundry yesterday and found water seeping in the basement in two spots. Went outside and the apartment building next door and shoveled their side walk and dumped most of the ice/snow up against my house. Had to chop up several inches of ice and carry each shovel-ful out to the front yard.

I also don't recommend neglecting cleaning out your gutters in the fall even if you're not a fan of ladders and are in the middle of life upheaval stuff. 'Cause my gutters were completely solid ice so all the snowmelt was just pouring over the side instead of down the spout, adding even more water to that side of the house.

Chopped as much ice as we could out of the gutters and cleared the side walk. Water seepage stopped. Gave the BF a massage because he did most of the ladder work and it's not even his house.

Oh, and painted the ceiling in the dining room. Officially starting to get the house ready for sale.

Officially sore as hell this morning and wussed out of riding when I saw forecast for 40-50mph wind gusts (headwinds) this afternoon.

Called in sick with a migraine. My wife wants me to go on a preventative, but doctor won't be available till Wednesday. So instead, I just finished up my new front wheel.

next up is therapist shopping and homework. Sick days suck as an adult.

jimmytango 02-11-13 12:59 PM

Today I'm in pain after pushing myself way too hard in my road race yesterday. Took part in a breakaway way too early, got stuck in front for too long, bonked, got dropped. My noobness is still showing; at least I avoided the two nasty crashes and finished in one piece.

Overall, how was the experience? Lately I've been really interested in doing some racing, but I want to make sure I'll enjoy it before I go and invest a bunch of money in a road bike and other racing related stuff.

35 to 50 Mph winds gusts! Felt like I was Sailing!

It's fun, but I'm not totally addicted or sure I'll continue yet. I haven't invested much, and you don't have to... I feel like I'm not being held back by my cheapish china carbon bike yet, I'm being held back 99% by my body. It's crazy how much some of the other cat 5 guys have already invested into their setups though... a lot of guys are running super nice wheels worth more than my entire setup combined. I thought I was in pretty good shape and would be able to hang, or maybe it's just that there's so many competitive (and rich) guys here in Cali that makes cat 5 tougher than usual, but I've got a long ways to go before I'll be competitive. This was only my 2nd race, I'm going to keep racing and see how it goes, but I really need to step up my training.

Making it out of a Cat 5 race alive is its own achievement.

I think you were the one that met my friend Jandro at one of the early bird clinics?

cali_axela 02-11-13 04:47 PM

Haha, thanks. One of the guys from the first big crash was screaming in so much pain, it was tough to hear and watch. That reminds me, I think I'm one of the only guys who hasn't shaved my legs yet, I better get on that if I want to be serious about this racing thing.

Yeah, I met Jandro at my first road race actually, the Patterson early bird road race. Good guy. I also did one of those early bird training crits, but didn't see him there. I've also yet to make it out to one of the SF WPH rides despite saying I'm going to... I'm just always in so much pain after going hard on the weekends to try and keep up with a ride like that on Monday night.

Dannihilator 02-11-13 05:54 PM

Today I got in a productive 50 miles, put the shimano pedals back on the bearings on the mavic pedals got rough really quick.

Nagrom_ 02-11-13 05:55 PM

What kind of miles on them?

Dannihilator 02-11-13 06:06 PM

800 miles, I'm probably going to try to rebuild them the next snow day.

LesterOfPuppets 02-11-13 06:43 PM

Today I would like to get up on some of these experimental Lay's flavours.
