Yesterday my brain apparently stopped working and I rolled out of work with a bungee cargo net dangling from my rack. Which, of course, immediately got pulled into my cassette and oh god what a mess. Thankfully I had my bike tools with me which includes a small leatherman so I hacked at the bungee and slowly got it all out.

Sigh.

Last night I finally got the popping in my drivetrain to stop. I spaced my chainring out 2.4 mm, but it was super aggravating because I was using two 1.2 mm spacers...the second one kept falling off. I got it to work eventually, though. Man: 1, machine: 0.

Both of my bikes have been making sounds lately. The fixie has been giving a polite little squeak intermittently, but with gradually increasing frequency. I still can't tell where it's coming from, possibly the front hub. The roadie's bottom bracket starts squealin' once I get to mile 25 or so. TIME FOR GREASE

Went for a three mile jog last night in anticipation of being too hung over to ride this morning. Ended up riding through the pain. I win.

jdgesus, I am glad that you are ok.

Today I put the hurt on a person on a hybrid who had to blow himself up to get past me. I don't really care about it was riding my own pace and it just happened to have happened when I started to accelerate for a longer climb. Got done with my ride and 20 minutes later as I am cooling down he rolls past me.

Today I cut my folding bike in half (which actually made it a three piece bike and proceeded to install a new rear triangle and a few more cable guides... tomorrow I will fit the bridges and brake posts and should be able to take the bike out for a shake down ride.

And then... it will be time for sand blasting and powder coating as there isn't a place on the bike that hasn't been torched, filed, or sanded... and I still need to make a new stem.

Figure I earned the cold beer I have right here...

:)

Today I cleaned up my MTB. It feels so weird to ride something without foot retention now.

Today i...

Today I switched a couple of my friends' tires, since they wanted to trade rims, only to realize that the tubes in my buddy's fixie were 700x28c, and the rims were 700x18c. Nbd.

Today I got talked into not resigning from my spot with the pumptrack.

yummygooey 07-23-11 09:31 PM

Today I used the co-op's chain tool and had my new chain on the FTP after about 30 seconds. Yay!

Yesterday I heard some girl at the beach tell her friends how you can only meet hipsters guys that ride their bikes everywhere in Philadelphia and New York city.

Cleaned up bike after yesterday's hot-and-rainy century.

Also flopped and chopped a set of bars and trued a wheel that has been on the back burner for a while.

I hope you tossed sand at her

for putting NYC and Philly in the same sentence.

Yesterday and I today: Watched the Marymoor Grand Prix. All sorts of super fast track racing. Madisons are brilliant to watch.

Leukybear 07-24-11 02:26 AM

I was informed by a friend catching the tour that he shipped a official credit lyonnais stuffed podium lion to my house.

Getting my brother on a bike has been great... for me. I gave him my helmet and bought a new Specialized Echelon in white with the reflective stripes. I dont have a mushroom head anymore

homebrewk 07-24-11 10:52 AM

Swam 1/2 a mile-ish, ate some donuts. Now if I can actually get good at running I can do triathlons...

Today I:
Started off on a bike ride with the Prez and after not even a mile I crossed some train tracks and my bottle shot out. Okay I can understand it, so I reset it and headed down the long straight road. Started to pass some slower bikers and pop, it comes out again! At that point, I decided that I would turn around and switch bikes... I am not going to deal with it until later.

So I rode back home, swapped my computer back over to the 722, and added a secondary water bottle cage and head out on a new path towards the St. Johns bridge (Roughly 7 miles). The whole time I was thinking to myself that I would work on my Cadence this time around. Lots of straight roads, not too much hills... Again, riding with my mountain biking buddy. I have definitely taken a bit of knowledge back with me after today's ride...

http://www.pedalroom.com/p/leader-722-rs-2280_31.jpg

So, after riding around on the 722 I have decided that my 53/39 + 11/26 setup is just too much... I was able to hit 29mph on the Prez, but down a long hill (granted towards the end of the 20 miler and I was pretty warn out) the fastest I could get going was 34mph. It didn't have to do with my cadence, it had more to do with my weakness, but it just assured me that spinning is winning, and that riding a fixed geared bike definitely helps... It really helps with your cadence and it can greatly help you work on your pedal stroke. That being said, my 46/17 geared bike feels nearly perfect for everyday riding... As for the 722, maybe I should try and get my hands on a compact chainring set.

Gear inches calculated for 722:
126.6 93.2
116.1 85.4
107.1 78.8
99.5 73.2
87.1 64.1
81.9 60.3
73.3 53.9
66.3 48.8
60.6 44.6
53.6 39.4

Now if only I could figure out a way to properly carry a water bottle with the Prez, I would be happy... Anybody have any other idea's (aside from dual rockets off the seat)?

NOTE: I highly discourage the use of the SKS Water Bottle Mount I recently purchased.

Chief Brody 07-24-11 04:29 PM

Today I rode 22 miles on my Singlecross, pushing the massive stock 42X18 gearing. In all seriousness, I havn't riden that far in ages.
