BB & Crank options for 70's era Bridgestone touring frame with 73MM BB shell.

Trying to fill in the gaps here with what i found on line and the disappointing LBS experiences.
Looking for options to convert this frame to single speed. Just looking for a decent crank/BB combo that will work on the 73mm shell. Bike shops guys seem disinterested at best and one just handed me a catalog and told me to pick what I wanted and he would order it. I could do that from home.

Any starting points? Preferably mid ranged stuff as this is my first bike and looking at it as more of a learning experience to grow on.

Thanks in advance.

I have heard great things about the S300. I believe Lilc (Alex) has them on his stylish 725. They are also only $150 from UniversalCycles, which is a great site. See here.
