I've been wanting to build another bike. Orange frame, but havent found anything I like. Bikeisland has an orange kilo frame that I really like for $225 should I build this up or keep looking.

Despite all the bickering to be found online (by people who have never tried it), this isn't true at all. If you don't believe me, install a cog & BB lockring on a freewheel hub and try removing the cog with a chainwhip without removing the lockring.

I'm not saying it works as well as a proper cog/reverse-threaded lockring setup but the majority of bull**** you read online about suicide hubs is just that.

Actually I was going to write that the BB lockring helps a lot, but then I though better of it in fear of getting flamed :D Guess I should just not write about suicide hubs on the internet at all. I actually run a suicide hub almost exclusively (with a brake ofc).

Thanks for the comments.

Maybe the dumbest question ever asked here, should I get a Motobecane Fantom Cross UNO off BD or a Pure Fix Cycle/some other cheap publicized fixie bike? The Fantom, right? I believe it's way better but I want to make sure. Thanks.

Thanks, will do. Only reason why I was looking at the PF was because of the color ways lol. Hopefully will get the FC UNO for Christmas.

Should I use black or silver nipples for my next wheelset? Right now I have silver dura ace hubs and black spokes and black archetype rims. Would silver nips look weird with all the black?

seau grateau 09-20-13 05:40 PM

I think silver would look pretty badass.

Jaytron 09-20-13 07:59 PM

Should I spend $1300 on a new track frame, because I know that the current track bike won't take me as far as I want to go and I can get a discount now... or wait?

what frame did you have in mind Jay? i would say $1300 for just a frame... it would have to be a pretty special frame with that price tag to justify it

Dolan DF4 (new iteration of the DF3), I'd be getting 30% off retail so I feel like I should do it now since I'll be upgrading at some point.

Agreed. Sliver-black-sliver-black sound better then sliver-black-black-black. contrast

Alright thanks guys! For what it's worth, silver nipples are $6 cheaper than black nipples :D

Should I put on a freewheel on my old kilo, that way I have a single speed and a fixed gear rather than 2 fixed geared bikes?

rms13 09-22-13 08:46 PM

Should I change my gear ratio? I'm running 46/17. There are hills and mountains even where I live but can I avoid most of them when I want to. When I ride my fixed bike I usually stick to flatter terrain and according to Strava I can get up to 30 mph with my current set up. But I feel slow especially from a stop. I am thinking about putting a 19 or 20 cog on the other side of my wheel so I have options. Worth the trouble?

How about flip flop with freewheel on one side and fixed on the other

sheepdog84 09-22-13 10:31 PM

should i try to win this and make it my townie/winter/lockup bike?

Thats what I was thinking, but its a huge hassle to remove the wheel on my kilo, for some reason it requires almost 5x the force that my 725 needs just to get the rear wheel out.

But if I used a freewheel, I'd want to get brake levers like the ones that road bikes use. I still have my calipers somewhere in my room.

Are your seat stays bent? My kilo wheel requires no force to remove.

Sounds more like the dropout spacing is way off.

i wouldnt, but i feel like you can get more for less or at least less for much less. especially if you find a gem on CL that someone is trying to just get rid of

just get the last remaining tiemeyer in the world. http://georgegarnercyclery.com/ call them, they have the last one ever, its a standard, i think 54cm maybe i bit more than 1300 but its THE LAST TIEMEYER!!!!!!

Gunit7 09-23-13 06:29 PM

also should i lace a blb notoriuos 90 with my all city track hub or get a better priced aluminum rim.

Kayce 09-23-13 06:38 PM

There is no way there is any quality control on that rim, and it will be a giant pain in the butt to build. Whats the goal for this wheel?
