I just did.
Saw it for $90 on pedalroom, Only reason I ask

Is 80 dollars a good price to pay for a used chris king inset?

No. I've paid as low as $50 for one second hand. And as silly as it is, the color of a king headset dictates the price as well. Most expensive = sotto voce/ black, cheapest = pink.

1koolkat 12-24-12 12:33 AM

Oops, just got a black one for 80. But I guess thats still better than 150.

Nagrom_ 12-24-12 01:06 AM

Its definitely fair. Don't lose sleep over it.

on to a 38cm flat bar for my fixed gear? bars seen here
http://i.imgur.com/CUh8H.jpg

im not worried much about the look but mostly whether they are safe/stupid/comfortable/useless at that width

(I'm currently riding road drops - yes tiny flat bars are stupid)

1koolkat 12-24-12 02:02 AM

They look like they would be awkward to ride on

What frame is that by the way.

I've got the Pro version of these. Once you get them adjusted ( carry an Allen key with you to do it on the road), they are very good and provide a decent alternative hand position. If you've got them, they're worth a try.

jpsawyer 12-24-12 10:55 AM

Bar ends on narrow flat bars are possibly my favorite set up for city riding. So comfy and useful.

Switching the stock 23c tires on my Kilo to 28c with kevlar, which one to go with?

weight bead PSI retail discount
Schwalbe Marathon Supreme 310g folding 100 79.85 53.44
Panaracer RiBMo 370g 110 45.99 33.88
Forte Strada K 378g wire 105 17.99 12.99

(excuse the failed table format)

hairnet 12-24-12 12:49 PM

Fwiw, when I had a pair of RiBMOs I didnt get a single flat ever and I did ride the rear until the threads started to show.

jdgesus 12-24-12 12:50 PM

i just got a flat on a ribmo, it was nearly new

hairnet 12-24-12 12:56 PM

I've seen the same thing happen to 2 friends of mine, but then went 2000+ miles without any. Strange

GENESTARWIND 12-24-12 01:39 PM

im a fan of michelin krylions but not a fan of gatorskins.

jlafitte 12-24-12 01:48 PM

Anyone care that you can get four or five Fortes for the price of one of the other fancy tires? From all accounts they're as durable.

Ewwww performance bike genericness.... FWIW I have a gatorskin that just won't die and has been going strong for going on nearly 5 years now daily on my commuter. The sidewalls are dried and cracked to hell and it has so many cuts on the thread that when deflated and squeezed it looks like a sponge. Yet it soldiers on, I have yet to have had a flat on it in all the time I have had it. Tubes only go out of it when tubes wear out at the presta valve joint w/ the rim from wear and tear.

jlafitte 12-24-12 04:38 PM

haha so my Kilo is a performance bike?

Interesting that everyone comments on durability, but I'm at least as interested in comparing how they ride.

Spoonrobot 12-24-12 04:45 PM

Forte = Performance Bike house brand.

The only Forte tires that are worth a darn are the Pro+ ones. And they're just okay, tires are generally one of the areas where you really get what you pay for.

ETA: Those Stradas are garbage. They roll heavy, feel squishy and generally have lower quality than the Panaracers.

Should I exchange my Timbuk2 Rump Roast Belt Pack
http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/products/...t-pack/2114847
for the Timbuk2 Porkchop?
http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/products/pork-chop-belt-pack
Something big may be nice, but maybe its too big to wear on a belt

Nagrom_ 12-25-12 03:02 PM

It's only like 10% bigger.

Scrodzilla 12-26-12 07:12 AM

The Porkchop also doesn't have a belt holster, if that matters.

jpsawyer 12-26-12 10:05 AM

Just decided to stick with the Rump Roast. It measured out to be 1.8 liters and the Porkchop measured out to be 1.95 Liters. Looks can be deceiving.

How about the Vittoria Rubino Pro 28mm? It's lightweight for the size and rides very nice.

surprisingly comfortable. I wouldnt recommend spending 2hrs+ on it but its got a tiny bit of flex to it and its well shaped, for what it is

Would this be a bad purchase? I just want some solid wheels that are reliable. Not too worried about super light aero etc.

The loose bearing hub puts me off... you'd be better off a set of Origin 8 LTP43 if you're looking for cheap wheels, or get Mavic Open Pros to Formulas for a little more.

Should I get a pair of used Sidi Gen5 for $150?

I'm currently using a pair of Scattante Scalino that is too big for me.
