Should I build up an All City Mr. Pink with SRAM Force slowly over the winter, or buy complete with 105 next week?

Want to go SRAM, don't know if I have the patience/money to build it up slow and right.

Nagrom_ 12-18-12 10:35 AM

Force.

What can you get it for?

ddeadserious 12-18-12 10:47 AM

For groupsets, eBay is right around QBP cost, so I'd probably just buy from Ebay. I can get the frameset for half the cost of the complete bike, I just know how fast building a bike adds up and if I build it, the only way I'll be able to is by buying all the best parts. It'll end up being more expensive than my Tarmac easily.

Thing is, I haven't even ridden my bike for over a month now, and having a new road bike probably isn't going to change my lack of desire to ride in cold weather, so building over the winter really won't affect my riding one way or the other since I have my 722 should I feel like riding.

Nagrom_ 12-18-12 10:48 AM

We're in the same boat.

Sounds like you should build.

ddeadserious 12-18-12 10:51 AM

I gotta think, man. Tough choices and ****.

Mumonkan 12-18-12 11:30 AM

build.

im in the same boat and i realized that even if i did get a new roadie suddenly i wouldnt be able to do the big rides i want anyway, so i decided to build it up over the "winter" and go ape**** when it gets nice out

sure itl cost more in the end, but youre only spending a couple hundred at a time

Force not available at EP pricing through SRAMshop or local rep?

Get the 105 bike complete, and be happy you don't have SRAM wiped all over you bike.

i really should, noone else would say anything anyway since theyre the GM

Nobody likes a snitch.

Buddy legitimately called out his boss to superiors, got called out on the carpet for it. Boss quit, position is open for promotion, but he has no chance now.

Anonymous whistleblower line is tempting, though, as long as you are super-positive it won't come back to you.

Could be. But like I qualified -- be darn sure there's no accountability involved with the "anonymous" whistleblower line...

Nagrom_ 12-20-12 08:41 PM

Black or carbon spacers on the caadillac?

Scrodzilla 12-20-12 08:46 PM

Black. For some reason, carbon spacers always look bad to me.

Nagrom_ 12-20-12 08:48 PM

Yeah... I have a carbon spacer sitting above the X2, and I'm really not diggin' it.

Should I get a nice open pro & dura ace wheelset, or get a cheaper novatech and deep v's as well as a sram omnium?

Dannihilator 12-21-12 11:35 PM

novatech and deep v's with a sugino 75 crankset.

Mumonkan 12-22-12 12:16 AM

what should i get myself for christmas?

new drivetrain (crankset/cog/ring/chain) and seatpost or freight baggage rolltop (im running out of room in my messenger bag)

Nagrom_ 12-22-12 12:19 AM

What are you currently rolling on? and how seriously do you need a bigger bag?

Mumonkan 12-22-12 12:25 AM

current parts are
eighthinch seatpost from my scrambler
origin8 crankset
eighthinch cog/ring
kmc 410 chain

bag isnt entirely necessary, but im kindof over the whole "messenger bag flopping around on my back" thing, and it would allow me to fit things like more food and clothes in it
plus, custom shiz

Nagrom_ 12-22-12 12:27 AM

Now that I think of it... I have no ****in clue what you ride....

Fill me in.

Nagrom_ 12-22-12 12:29 AM

nvm... link in sig. one sec.

Nagrom_ 12-22-12 12:31 AM

I think your bike is fine the way it sits, you definitely have room to upgrade, but nothing seems necessary.

If you need a bag, you need a bag.

i wouldnt say i need either one if im being honest

havent bought anything for myself in a while so im in need of some retail therapy

Nagrom_ 12-22-12 12:43 AM

I think the bag would be a more noticeable change.

Should I order a Surly Pacer or a Soma Smoothie to replace my Allez?

If you set it up similar to the one in the picture then my vote goes to the smoothie.

It's going to be built with the standard 4130 fork for now, full Rival, Thomson post, Ritchey stem, FSA Wing Pro bars and Mavic Cosmic Elites.

Muffin Man 12-23-12 06:50 PM

Should I get a Alpina carbon fork for my Leader? the steel fork is pretty damn heavy.

Scrodzilla 12-23-12 07:04 PM

No. Stop picking your bike up and ride it.

If you want to spend your money on something that actually matters, get lighter wheels.
