How much road/crit racing have you done Kayce?

I'm new to the track myself, and I already agree with you 100% on the first 4 points. Although I'm new to it, I had a blast at the track last summer and look forward to this year on the track. I had at least as much fun as I have during a typical crit.

Kayce 02-07-13 03:28 PM

I have done very little road racing. Maybe only 5 crits. I raced a season of nothing but track, then figured I would give crits a try. I gave it a good shot, but never had fun with them.

TMonk 02-07-13 03:57 PM

If i crit is untechnical (no serious cornering, no punchy hills) than the track is pretty much funner every time imo.

the only time crits approach the fun of track ime is when they are super technical (cornering is fun) and/or involve punchy big ring hills to string **** out.
at 150lbs i seem to excel in big ring climbs (shallow gradients) and uphill sprints

but crits that are cool like that are like less than 1/3 of what is on the calender in socal so eff that noise.
most of them are boring as industrial park crits that are pancake flats with no techy turn sections. lame.

track >>>> industrial park crits

It's your beater, put on what ever you feel like. My beater's had more 'outfits' than your average super model.

Should I swap my Thomson stem/seatpost for 3T, I think I like the look a little more, and need to change stem sizes anyway.

Also, swap the Romin out for an Arione or Antares?

If you're just going for looks and have the parts, go for it. Both brands are pretty much on par with each other if you're looking at aluminum.

As for the saddles. Have you ridden either one of those? I can't speak for your butt although I do have a arione & kurve snake in the cycle and they are among my favorites.
If you're thinking of buying an arione, there's a design overhaul coming this year, which means you can either wait for the redesign or the clearance of old models.

calv 02-11-13 05:44 PM

I have not tried Fizik saddles yet, the Romin has been so far the most tolerable saddle I've ever ridden. I'll be able to swap back if I want, but it's a big leap since Fizik saddles seem pretty expensive.

I only want to try because I feel that the flat Arione or Antares might be more comfortable.

Concerning 3T vs Thomson, I remember Scrod listing the weight of 3T as more than twice the weight of Thomson parts. Is there an explanation for that if my memory serves correct? (Usually doesn't)

Nagrom_ 02-11-13 05:53 PM

3T does carbon and Thomson does aluminum.

Kayce 02-11-13 06:35 PM

Fizik is one of the companies that does a try out program. Go to your area racer shop and put down a deposit, then you can try each saddle for a week or so.

GENESTARWIND 02-11-13 11:40 PM

they are stupid expensive though.....

I want thomson. And the masterpiece I had for a couple days was really freaking light.

This has nothing to do with what Calv asked.

Forged aluminum is heavier than billet machined extruded aluminum.

Is that the only difference? I'm almost sure that both are equal in quality, as Leuky said.

Probably not worth ****ing around with my seatpost and **** to match. Might as well get another X4.

Meet the seller and use the NDS arm to beat the **** out of him.

i RIDE 02-12-13 10:32 PM

Haha I'm more interested in how he did such a thing. Waiting on a response

Edit: haha Nevermind, read it wrong. He said someone got the head of a crank puller stuck and stripped all the threads completly. More of a pain to deal with

seau grateau 02-13-13 12:55 AM

Should be fine if you never want to take that crank arm off again.

hockeyteeth 02-13-13 02:55 AM

You just need a "pickle fork"!

I had a car pull out and block the bike lane on my way home yesterday I swerved to go around them and ended up catching the curb on the downstroke. Snapped the clip right off.

Hop? I'm not sure how that would have helped....hopping while parallel to something doesn't change it's relationship to where you are. Also, at 20mph hopping sounds like a horrible idea....

websterrr 02-17-13 11:50 AM

should i buy the matching 27" front wheel for the conversion, or get a new 700c wheelset? I bought the rear wheel while converting the peugeot a couple years ago with all intentions to replace the front but never got around to it...
