My grandma drives a Camry SE. (No joke.)

I'm not even talking about an STI or whatever. The Impreza is a great car that will last a long time.

I wasn't serious about the badass part just a little teasing, another thing that's hard to interpret on the web.

To actually answer your question my Granny enjoys the Camry, spacious, comfy, and the trunk has enough space for bieks if you don't have a rack. I'll be driving it when I start college next year. I don't mind it but if it was my choice i'd be driving something sportier.

Mine has 180k on it, and over the past 2 years and 40,000 miles all I've replaced are the radiator, ball joints, and rear wheel bearings. It's never left me stranded and it's fun as **** to drive(especially in the snow).

We're a Toyota family. We've had great experiences with all our Camry's (4 of them, one is a '12 SE) and I expect to get some really awesome pricing on either car because of this. I'm not gonna lie - I like the Camry. The only problem is that it makes me feel old when I drive it.

The salesman told me the tC and the Camry are the same platform... so for me it's kinda just a matter if 2 doors will be ok for me (20-something, single, car used mainly to drive to work). Either car would probably get a hitch or something for bike cargo-ing.

How does the Impreza drive? The engine seems undersized for that size car... 2.0L, 145ft-lb torque, 148hp.

The transmission is geared in such a way that despite not having a ton of power, it's very peppy and enjoyable to drive.

Subaru makes great cars in general. An uncle of mine has like 600K miles on his outback.

Some newer Subarus have problems with subframe rust, some older ones have problems with the heads warping (granted, around 160k). Those are the only things that have me apprehensive about purchasing one.

With that said, my next vehicle will probably be a Subaru. Just need to teach my wife to drive stick.

My 91 Subaru had 257k miles on it and I never changed the oil for an entire year. Still sold it, in great shape, for $2k.

As much as I love Subaru, people knock on their unreliablility over here all the time. My sqrl's bestie has an aunt that works at a dealership and the aunt actually steered her away from buying one due to reliability issues. Anecdotal evidence is anecdotal though, so take it with a grain of salt (idgaf what her aunt says honestly, I'm still going to own a wrx in the near future).


I'm not a Toyota fan, but if I were to choose a car from your choices, I'd get the Camry hands down, even if only for the fact that it has 4 doors. 2 doors gets old really quick, especially if you go out a lot with friends. Oh, and the new scion looks uglier than a Camry IMO.

I test drove the Subaru. I liked it. I'd be getting the Sport Premium trim, I think.

I want a WRX, but I don't know how to drive manual and I don't think manual is the best option for the hills of Seattle. Forever afraid of rolling backwards.

I really just want a reliable car that works. Fun to drive is a bonus.

When Angie was shopping for a car a few years back, she was torn between a new Mazda 3 and a two-year old WRX with very low miles. After driving the Mazda 3, she chose the Subaru. I had an '07 Subaru Legacy GT wagon at the time and hated the Mazda when I test drove it too.

I read about some reliability issues with the Skyactiv thingy. My friend just bought a Mazda 3 and it was making some odd noises, too. That, to me, is a sign to stay away.

OK postscript on the 700x28c tire quest.

LBS offered RiBMos, Marathon Plus, Gator/GatorHardshells, and a couple Vittoria leftovers from stock bikes. After a bit of soul searching I submitted to paying retail+ for the Ribmos. Relative to online offerings such as Scrod's, net donation to LBS for two tires was about $40. Chalk up some positive karma pour moi.

Time will tell, but from the perspective of this fixed gear neophyte's Kilo TT, the initial impression is that these are ideal urban commuter tires. Roll great, grip great, with a subtle sense of invulnerability while riding the kind of 3rd world streets one may encounter in an infrastructure-challenged American metropolis. Probably the 23c Kendas that came with the bike are a little faster on perfectly smooth asphalt, but overall I'm riding with a lot more confidence and comfort now.

I didnt notice you're in NOLA. Ribmos are thick down the center and will serve you well on those god awful roads
