There's one of those locked up by my school missing everything except the front wheel.
|
I dont know if I would be able to do a conversion for less money. It would just for riding 40 blocks or so and be locked up all day. I cant find anything on craigslist that is cheaper or a potential conversion candidate.

Should I drill the fork on my bike and put a brake on? I would be able to do descents faster while beng safe, but I have never felt unsafe without a front brake.
|
buy another fork

But if you are riding on roads, you should definitely have a front brake. It doesn't mean you have to use it if you don't want to and it doesn't make you less of a man or an inferior rider. But the fact remains that you have more stopping power in front than in back - that has nothing to do with skill, it's physics. Not to mention that freak stuff does happen occasionally even when it's unlikely, like chains dropping or breaking, lockrings stripping, cogs unthreading, bottom brackets or pedal spindles cracking, and a front brake is a good backup plan for if it does. And in the end, you can ride faster if you have a better brake because you can react and stop faster if necessary. Don't get me wrong, stopping or slowing with your feet is a good skill to have. But no matter how good at it you get, a front brake will still be better. |
Should I CAAD 8, or Fuji Roubaix Pro? The CAAD doesn't have a price on CL, but the Fuji is only $575, including clipless pedals and 'tri bars' that I could flip for a few bucks. The CAAD also has two saddles, pedals, and a computer. I'm torn.
Also relevant is that the CAAD is a 56, the size my fixed gear is, and the Fuji is a 54. My short legs/long torso could make a 54 work. http://centralmich.craigslist.org/bik/3473215115.html http://grandrapids.craigslist.org/bik/3402051460.html |
Get what fits.

If it's priced well, I'd definitely get the CAAD.
|
Thats what I'm hoping for. I just got my school refund, so that will cover it for now.
|
Get ze CAAD.
|
The CAAD looks like it comes with speedplay pedals too if your into that kinda thing. Buy the CAAD.
|

I bet he will.

Cool thing, he works at my school, so I can just meet him on campus to take a look at it. And theres atms all over, so that works out really well for me.
He said its a 2006-2007, but I can't seem to find anything about one from that year, so I have no clue what a really fair price would be to offer for it based on the groupo it has. ****. |
I flaked. I tried doing some research on the bike, and I couldn't find a single thing. So, with now idea what a legit price for it would be, based on age and all that stuff, I don't feel 100% comfortable going for it. Feel like an ******* about it, but I'm not about to spend that kind of money when I'm not absolutely sure about what I'm doing. Oh well I guess.
|
I wouldn't worry about it. If it doesn't feel right it is best not to go for it.
|
Here's a spec list for the CAAD8. Pretty sure this is it in race red.

Should I not bother holding back my laughter at the presta valve problem thread in the 41?
|
I don't know how you have that much control... hahaha.
I have no idea how some newbie's torn valve can turn in to a religious argument between schrader and presta. |

Anyhow, I have been pondering the idea of getting rid of the dogma 2 and getting something else. You can say I must be MADone. |

Should I pick up a couple pairs of those Mavic Race SL Ti's to replace my 105s?
