To replace it, should I get the Civilian VLR?
Or should I build up a ebay carbon frame with ultegra?

I kinda want to build...

Despite the bad rap put on by arrogant cyclist/ remorseful cyclist from having spent that dough on a LBS roadie; china carbon isn't all that bad to be honest.
Most cases it is actually what some people think they are plus/ minus some bells and whistles to keep the lawyers away; a unbranded frameset currently made/ formerly made by the exact same factory that makes the legit branded product. Usually happens when a contract expires or a model gets put out.

I've seen and know a couple riders here that ride them, the quality is actually pretty decent and acceptable. Most times, you're just missing the pretty wrapper with the livery that you pay for.

This is pretty much what I thought, and I've heard really good things.

and for 400-600 bucks, its not bad at all.

Should I sell my car and buy a Pelizzoli Leggenda FOR-3 with ENVE SES 6.7 rims / wood hubs / omniums?

Adrian_ 08-14-12 10:02 PM

What kind of car do you have?

NcA13 08-14-12 10:10 PM

2006 Civic Si ;)

solipsist716 08-14-12 10:19 PM

I wouldn't. Then again I don't have a car.

Gemme dat car

Adrian_ 08-14-12 10:26 PM

Depending on condition and how it runs I wouldn't. Can't drive chicks home on the pelizzoli.

NcA13 08-14-12 10:32 PM

Moving closer into the city, and I work for zipcar, so I can take a BMW out if I ever need to for a date.

Bat56 08-14-12 10:50 PM

wood hubs sound dangerous. I've heard of wooden rims... But hubs? I wouldn't trust them.

No offense OP but this is just plain stupid from all points of view....

Keep the car and save for the build.

Hello everyone, this is my first post and I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, redirect me to where this belongs if so.
Anyway, I live in southern France, it's pretty flat around here, only the odd hill, nothing too steep. In 2005 i got a cheap mountain bike from like Halfords (for those in the UK) for like 99£, I still have it but it's almost done, the gears are a mess and barely work (i try to change gear and nothing happens). I was looking for a replacement bike and found out about fixed gear bikes, i love the idea of it !
I ride maybe 3 times a week at the moment but soon I'll have to be riding about 100km (62 miles) some days, again on just flat to get to town. I've found a couple bikes I'm interested in, is a fixed gear the best for the type of cycling I plan on doing ? and also what do the 53,56 and 59 sizes correspond to ?

http://www.amazon.fr/pignon-Essence-...5030066&sr=1-3

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Viking-Road-...5030693&sr=1-2

If you know of any better fixed gear bikes in the 200-250 euro range then send me a link :)

Thanks in advance,
Alex

There are not enough keys on my keyboard. Whoever answers this is saint.

NcA13 08-15-12 07:47 AM

Phil wood indeed. Probably selling the car regardless & i have another fixed gear for commuting (riding daily anyways). The questions being... Is there a better hubset to go with? Is there anything that ranks the same as the Leggenda FOR-3? Was thinking Stanridge.

Your comment did make me laugh :) and i know it would be a long response, if not all i need are some links to a couple similar threads.

Did you start with the Start Here thread? For your questions about specific frames from Amazon.fr we are probably not going to be able to help you much as they are low end frames that we have never encountered. They are probably rideable if you know how to put them together yourself but they are probably not great. You would be better off if you could find a knowledgeable bike shop that would be willing to order something for you and get you on a bike that actually fits, which can be somewhat hard if you don't have the bike in person or at least a chart showing the geometry of the frame. Even if you don't buy from the bike shop you will have a better idea of what you are looking for.

OK, I will play nice.

That's up to you. 62 miles might be pushing it, especially if you get into some rain or wind. Are you a man or a mouse?

Just under 2k complete, but everything pictured previously comes to 1660 shipped.

But only 500 out pocket, due to selling my roadie.
