Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? It's clearly worth the $400 it's up to now, but what's the most one should reasonably pay for it?
Why did you post this here and not in the 'craigslist/ebay' thread?

Seemed like it fit under the "should I get it" category. Wasn't aware there was a craigslist/ebay thread. Are there actually people here that have every thread on the board memorized?

Ah. Never saw it.

Choosing a forum thread kind of reminds me of those intelligence test questions where they ask you which of the four answers fits "best"...and really they all fit, but one supposedly fits better than the others. I guess I failed the test.

I'd give him a pass and say that, since he is asking whether he should bid or not, it's valid for this thread.

Also, FYI that's the green bareknuckle I'm being offered locally lol. I'm interested in it mostly for the frame, cranks, other contact points. All that matchy blue stuff would go away.

It looks like it's worth 300 bucks. Very sweet. But then I know very little about frame value.

I could see a gorgeous vintage build come from that. Maybe go vintage campy or modern retro?

I probably wouldn't go full-on vintage Campy. It seems like a cool old frame that I wouldn't have to be afraid of riding.

What about it?

Should you buy it? Should you throw it off a bridge? Should you eat it?

What are you even talking about? Your post says nothing. Are you asking if you should buy that frame or posting it just for the hell of it?

I thought "Should I....." and then listing a price for a frame would be quite obvious but nevermind, I'll go ask someplace with a higher IQ average.

Not SS and definitely not FG: related to the Merckx.

Local shop owner agreed to a straight swap for the components off the 1996 diamondback podium 2.0 he's had hanging in his storage barn for the last 15 years (link to the bike) it follows the bikepedia page with nearly full mirage and zonda wheels except that it has a veloce FD.

I know mirage is relatively middle of the road, but this is a great trade, right? The zondas alone are worth something, right? How do campy freehub bodies work? Can I put a 9speed cassette on the zondas and can I convert the ergos to 9speed?

I'd keep the Merckx hands down.

Nonononono, just the components. This would put campy on the Merckx frame.
