What hubs are you using? And what do you think about my bartape issue in post #197? I would someone's opinion besides my own...

Scrodzilla 08-19-11 04:47 PM

Novatecs. I think I'm going with 32h 2X front & rear (or maybe a radial front). I'm so indecisive.

Go for red splash.

Sounds awesome. And I'm thinking red splash too.

Kinlin xr 300's or 380's?

Scrodzilla 08-19-11 10:11 PM

I haven't had a chance to get them up on the site yet but we just got some XR-380s and they're quite awesome.

deadsouls. 08-19-11 10:38 PM

Hmm, i'm just trying to go light as possible. In that case I should probably just get the 200's. I forgot you had those.

Scrodzilla 08-19-11 10:45 PM

He'll yeah. 200s laced with Sapim Lasers will weigh practically nothing.

deadsouls. 08-19-11 10:59 PM

I like what i'm hearing. But with the 200's i'd be losing DA AERO, would it really make a big difference? I mean aeroness vs lightweight.. Which one should be top priority?

Scrodzilla 08-19-11 11:07 PM

Unless you're riding at maximum speed everywhere you go, aero matters very little. You could always go with the XR-270s which are deeper yet still only weigh 440g (which is really good compared to a Deep V which is 520g). Choosing good spokes really make a world of difference tool. Lasers weigh less than half of typical straight-gauge spokes.

deadsouls. 08-19-11 11:13 PM

Sweet i'll consider the 270's. What would be some good lightweight hubs to go with all this?

Scrodzilla 08-19-11 11:17 PM

I happen to be really fond of Novatec track hubs - they're a little lighter than Formulas and have better bearings - but you could always go with a really light road hub like the one pictured below in the front (which we can source from the Novatec factory if need be) to keep weight down.

deadsouls. 08-19-11 11:42 PM

That would be awesome. I'll be in touch. I appreciate all the help!

deadsouls. 08-23-11 08:13 PM

Would it be worth it to buy a 90g carbon saddle for $30, +30 more for shipping? It would be coming from Hong Kong..

Scrodzilla 08-23-11 08:15 PM

Good carbon isn't cheap and cheap carbon isn't good.

This makes me wonder if they are marketing any earthly matter as "carbon."

Currently in the process of building a bike. Definitely doing white with gold accents. I know it's not too big of a difference, but should I go gloss white or matte white?

max5480 08-26-11 12:58 AM

gloss, because gold is shiny so it they will balance out

Those are hot. I would definitely snatch those hubs up depending on price point. Is there a site I can see weight/bearings/specs?

My wife's got one laced to an Aerohead on one of her bikes and it's a really kick ass wheel:

If I were to use that Novatec road hub with 20h laced to a Kinlin XR-200 in the front, do you think it would still manage some mild curb-hopping and rough roads? I'm coming from B43's with Phils so I don't want a wheel that's too weak and will need to be trued often. Though I'm trying to go lightweight and economical. For the rear I plan to use XR-270 with 32h Suzue hub. Note that I weigh 100 pounds and usually ride 10-20 miles on rural roads. Would you guys recommend this setup for me?

Scrodzilla 08-26-11 11:34 AM

A 20h XR-200 laced to a Novatec road hub will be incredibly light, especially if you use good spokes. Weighing a hundred lbs, I really don't think you'd have any issues as long as the wheel was built properly from the get-go.

Most of the roads around here are horrendous, that's why Angie chose a 28 for the front.

if you don't want to wait for these to ship from taiwan, then check out bikehubstore.com, they have good stuff.

mashtofu 08-26-11 11:49 AM

Ah, thanks, I'm glad to hear that. Any recommendation on strong yet affordable spokes?

It only takes about a week to get stuff from BDop.
