Here Is My SS Conversion... On The Cheap
I got this DiamondBack Traverse from my bro-in-law got in '93. Had opening price point parts, and so on. Didn't really care for it as a MTB, so I decided to make it into a single speed.
The only money I sunk into it was for new nipples for the back wheel I rebuilt with a different hub (my first dished wheel build by the way,) some new grips, a master link, and I still need to get some street tires. The rest was stuff I already had.
I have to say I really like it, especially for my first single speed. The only things I want to change now, other than the tires, is the rear axle (going to ditch the QR for fear of slippage,) and probably a different saddle, most likely a Brooks, which will probably cost more than the bike is worth , but then again I can use it on my other ride as well..
Hopefully these pics will work....
Comments welcome.

You really gave that bike a fresh start! Good job on the conversion! If it's SS is there really much slippage to worry about with a QR?

looking good.. i wish my diamondback had horizontal drops so i could SS it without a tensioner
i'd get some slick road tires for it unless you ride a lot off road

Maybe.
On a more positive note. Aside from fit, it does look a lot better. Revitalized.
And props for the first redishing.

Thanks for the compliments and comments.
As for the QR slippage, I got up on the pedals and put some muscle into it and it slipped. I am going to look closely, but it could be as simple as The gription on the nut being worn out. I have some extra parts, so I can replace it if I have to and maintain my budget build goal.
Slicks are the type of tire I am going with for sure, just haven't made it to the LBS for them.
As for the size, time will tell. It is a little taller than I am used to, but is comfy to ride thus far. I will have a better idea when I take it for a little longer ride this weekend.
My main goal with this bike is to ride it a bit and see if I really like a single speed. And I didn't want to drop a bunch of $$$ and find out it wasn't for me. What little I have ridden it though has been quite favorable. It is a lot quieter than my multi speed, and I really dig the simplicity.
I will let you know how it goes after a longer ride.

Just get a quick release with steel cams instead of plastic. They tend to hold the wheel much better than plastic.

Good point. I will probably head to the LBS today.

What you want is an internal cam QR, like any Shimano or Campy one. Other designs often can't clamp hard enough, I've ripped all types of wheels out of all types of dropouts when using non-Shimano QR's.

The one i have is an internal. Only way to go, to be sure. I think I fixed my problem, though. I just had to tighten it up a bit more. Now time to ride!
