Bear fights sound awful. Your company party last year was similar IIRC.

Westy V-12 - got two bricks as well, tasted two bottles and the rest go into the cabinet for another year to mellow, still too sweet. Now a nice one ready to drink is that Pannepot Reserva !

I'm sure the monks are thanking you for personally funding their new cloister. How did you get your hands on two cases? Every place I know of had a strict limit and a waiting list.

Got in line early, took a teetotaler friend hostage to make the second deal. I think it is so cool that the bottle label says “Ad aedificandam abbatiam adiuvi” in Latin and translates to;“I helped to build the abbey.”

yeah but the real question is: did you make a fool out of yourself infront of your co-workers? or better yet, your supervisor and/or manager?

my company party was on sat. super fancy place, wine and drinks only, no IPAs on tap or anything like that. at one point my boy brian next to me asked a waiter if they had red bull and he looked at brian like he was some low-life piece of white trash

i made sure to get myself and my date out of there before people started getting fired

I miss the good old days, when the bottles were blank, and had to be smuggled back from Belgium in the suitcases of friends. Now that it's readily available in the states, it won't be long until people realize that it's just a good beer, not an amazing, religious experience, and it won't sell for such absurd amounts on ebay.

Oh, we have a few of the smuggled bottles here among our friends, had one last week. And I would not characterize this sale as "readily available" by any stretch of the imagination. Most stores were sold out of their allotment in two hours on 121212, and many places had dozens of people in line turned away. But I get your point, the beer is awesome and few can touch it's complexity, but that leaves many others that are far far easier to get that are at least as good if not even better than the six pack special. Myself, I am going to let the rest of my WV12 stash mellow for at least two years before opening another one - it is still too sweet compared to a 1998 I have sampled or 2002 Vintage WV12 I just drank. The Pannepot Reserva I think is a better Quad than any WV12's I have had but admit it is not fair for me to make that call when these brews are so hard to get!
And the price? Well, chances are wherever you are reading this now there is probably a $5 beer in your local store that I cannot get here but desire enough to pay $35 (or more - Italy/Belgium?) in shipping to get a case of, so it is all relative,... location location location

I'm tempted to say that Rochefort 10 and Gulden Draak 9000 are better quads.
