$7 for a six of Tecate? Not saying this in a mean way, but wow! Tecate is pretty cheap in L.A. But $7 could get you a pretty good six of something else depending on the sales.

If you guys like and can find Asian beers, Hite Max is surprisingly good for the price. Regular Hite is okay, but the Max is great. Six packs run about $5 here and the beer has a very nice taste, a little sweet, almost like a honey beer, but not too sweet.

Hitechino makes a red miso and ginger beer that's amazing...

I suspect the price of Tecate in my immediate area has something to do with how heavily we are taxed in Chicago. How much does a sixer of that cost over there? How much SHOULD it cost?

fastbartender 09-24-11 02:09 PM

...for asian beer I have to recommend a Sapporo or a Kirin Ichiban. If there are any major coffee drinkers in the New England area, my brother owns an organic free trade coffee shop in Connecticut...Port CoffeeHouse, look it up!

BigglyPuff 09-24-11 02:19 PM

I'm itching to try a Hitachino Nest, but the price here is too much. $6 could get me a good 20 oz bottle or a 12 oz bottle of Nest. Just not worth it for me yet.

For the Tecate, maybe it's just the 12-18-24 packs that get cheaper? Around here I think a 12 of Tecate is like $8-10. 18-24 packs go for like $10-12?

I like Sapporo and Kirins as well, and I especially like all-malt Japanese beers like Suntory and Yebisu. They are DAMN good. But I read somewhere that Japanese people view Asahi, Kirin, Sapporo, etc. like we look at Bud, Miller, Coors, etc. Not judging, just pointing out the good/bad that comes along with that.

my wife love the hitachino nest

Sixty Fiver 09-24-11 03:04 PM

Warka Strong (beer)... nothing expensive but not bad wit a sweet malty flavour that is not overpowering which is good as it is a 7.0.

Seems to be something that would go well with some spicy BBQ.

been drinking a lot of Full Sail Session and Lone Star. both are just good "mowing the lawn" beers.

if you like coffee or have a fancy high dollar coffee maker, really, try the aerobie aeropress.

jdgesus 09-24-11 04:49 PM

picked this guy up yesterday. it's a 3 liter bottle and i can refill it at the brewery. needless to say, i'm a happy camper.

edit: that's a cup of sailor jerry and coke. it's there as a size comparison.

Aeropress is such a winner for broke college students like me.

That and the Bialetti.

adriano 09-24-11 08:59 PM

my friend loves his bialetti, but the aeropress is superior.

My 1950's Pyrex Flame master percolator makes an ass kicking cup of coffee and cost me $25.00... secret is fresh beans and squeaky clean equipment and knowing how to perk a great cup of coffee.

A number of friends have picked up their own percolators after discovering how good a cup of coffee one can make this way.

Also have a French press and a mocha pot which also make great coffee.

My roomate has had one since early last year. I enjoyed it then, but it doesn't make better espresso or americanos than my Gaggia.

PluperfectArson 09-25-11 01:04 PM

Maker's neat and Guiness all night.

It's also $25, not $400 like your Gaggia.
The point is that moka, aeropress, and true espresso are not really comparable. However, they all make good coffee--just different kinds.

To go slightly off topic, how about drinking games? Last night I played a card game that involves choosing between red/black and higher/lower. Wrecks you quick when you can't win.

jimmytango 09-25-11 04:49 PM

My favorite drinking game is called drink another. Basically, every time you take a drink, you take another drink. Also known as, I hate drinking games.

I've played a few games with these rules. My usual games are beer pong and flip-cup(why do girls like this game?) or "drink another."
I've been on a 40 spree recently, and I've come to enjoy Olde English.

jimmytango 09-25-11 06:27 PM

Last night at the concert I played, it was a 40 of Colt 45, followed by a six pack of Tecate, followed by 2 Jack and Cokes, followed by a vodka and Red Bull, followed by me not being sure how I got home...

On the bright side, I was the most sober person in the room so everyone thought my band was good haha.
